Ok, now we've got a project name (FRENZY), we got some developers, let's make some scenery.

a) Can someone of the non-designers collate a list of scenery that has been produced for FS, maybe even with a compatibility list.

b) Can scenery designers post what scenery they own and like to contribute?

c) LMerraine, can we upload and download from your server easily (got your pm, I'll upload my stuff very soon)?

Set of AFCADs that aren't in FS. These are AFCADs only without flattens so they float in the air.

FTP is up and running - not accessible to some via http - so ensure that you use a proper ftp program.

So far, I have the following: (all I seem to be posting on here is bullet pointed lists at the moment!)

• NZ Airspace add-on version 1.2 (with lower airspace floors to fully override the mythical 'New Zealand Center'
• Palmerston North AFCAD, including flatten and exclude but with no buildings (never been released)

The next thing I'd like to work on is the GNZLAP AFCAD for Wanganui. After that, I'm thinking either Feilding or perhaps Ohakea or Waiouru, but there's so many military nuts out there I thought I'd leave those ones since it's probably already been modelled.

By the way, I notice Google Earth has recently updated some images in NZ so a lot more of the country has good quality images to base AFCADs on.

Wouldn't the free scenery thread be a good start on what is currently available?

Ok- Im close to finishing Whakatane, Opotiki ive just moved the default data to align with some photoreal, Coromandel is finished. Id like to start Whenuapai as my next project (currently talking with a mate who is a parachute jump instructor there so I shouldnt have problems getting data)

In terms of the scenery list- Ive got some webspace on here (thanks Trolly, Alex) to set up a google maps mashup...i just need to sit down and code it and then start updating it in Google earth (i.e. a spatial list to go with the textural list on here)

Things are a bit busy though so i havent had much time to develop lately.

Take a look at some of Lawrie's stuff- he's done a bunch recently

Looks like the Wanganui AFCAD is very similar if not identical to the GNZLAP AFCAD.

Incidentally, what's with all the taxiway paths? It almost looks like they are being used to draw terrain outlines or something.

Ah, must be right then!
Lawrie uses closed links to micromesh the area, works better than a flatten according to him.

Ahh. Although, there's also a woven network of taxiway links all over one of the grass runways at one end. Can't see why you'd need to do that to make a flatten since the runway flattens out everything beneath it anyway.

No, the runways DONT flatten in AFCAD. ONLY the taxiways do in AFCAD 2.21.
The only way to get a runway to flatten in AFCAD, is to slide an equal length and width closed taxiway underneath the runway.
This unfortunately, makes the runway take on whatever texure colour you chose for the taxiway, (grass, dirt, asphalt etc).
Seen the horrible un-natural look of grass in AFCAD ?? Looks like "astroturf".
Doing it the way i did it, (especially with photoreal ground textures , such as in Robs "Coromandel Penonsula"), leaves the photoreal textures to show through the runway surface...........
The "micromesh" trick, is just one of MANY handy little tricks you can use AFCAD for. As long as the width is set to 0 (zero), the "micromesh" wont show in the sim, and in great for flattening small areas, and really oddball little shapes...........
Quite a few docs out there on all the "Other" uses and tricks with AFCAD.

Ahh... and there I was thinking it was for some kind of 'random backtrack' thing! How does this work? The runway would take on the runway texture wouldn't it? Otherwise you'd see the taxiways over top of runways in cases where you had taxiways crossing runways.
