Out on skiis yesterday around Wengen, Switzerland, and captured a few photos of a ski-equipped Piper Cub. What made it more interesting was where they were taking off and landing. Have a look at the photo of the 'runway', which is at about 7300 feet and snow. After a very short take-off run, the pilot has to make a sharp right turn to avoid the ski slope straight ahead.

(apologies for the quality of the photos today, they were taken with a pocket camera instead of the usual).

First photo is of the aircraft in front of the north face of the Eiger:-

then the 'runway (the aircraft is just visible at the top of the slope):-

Reminded me a bit of Courchevel in France and Lukla in Nepal, short and steep, but this one has a hill in front of it, so a 'normal' take off is impossible. They were doing scenic flights around the big mountains for tourists, and I am almost tempted to do it just to experience the take-off. It would make a great challenge for FSX!!

Smooth landings.
