NZ Warbirds open day

Another well presented open day for NZ Warbirds today, Ardmore is certainly a mecca for WWII vintage aircraft, all the usual suspects - Spitfire, Kittyhawk, Mustang, Trojan, Dak, Cat, Harvards all flying, new addition the ex Wanaka L-39 displaying. And an interesting visitor obviously getting some TLC done to it

Good stuff...that Corsair engine looks pretty serious. Did the Kittyhawk fly?

I"ve been up close and personal with that Corsair a few times, but never seen it without its jacket on - man, that's a lot of cylinders packed in there!

Just doing some minor research on how many aircraft were/are powered by the 2800 which powered the Corsair....quite a list but the Corsair would appear to be the only aircaft in NZ with a R2800...courtesy of wikipedia

Thanks Gavin, thought I'd get some of my poor shots posted before the pros got in

Kittyhawk display was quite high, not easy for photography unless you had a telescope attached to the end of your zoom lens lol

Highlights as usual the spitfire, very polished display, nice display of the albatross, Roaring Forties have a great routine, lovely prince of wales feathers to complete the display,..... and the rest!
