Brilliant, nice captures, thanx for sharing. You musta nearly choked on your lunch when you saw that Galaxy rumbling into site? biggrin.gif

DK....I did...i had heard a rumour about it, but had heard the same thing before so i wasnt really expecting to see it. Then he came into view from the east (tracking to wigram)....thats when i dropped the hamroll dry.gif The pics arent that great, but after some advise here on the forum...Ive improved a couple of them, which I'll re-post , but mybe in "off topic" so i dont hijack the photo page .
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but a whole bunch of troops got off it , and straight onto a C-17, Which departed about an hour after the C-5 landed along with some of the freight from the C-5.....strange.

Anyway, thanks for looking, and I'll get those other cleaner pics up soon.

Cheers

Marty

Wow, that place does look like a packed US base!
Hope you enjoyed the ear-shattering screech that C-5's are known for! winkyy.gif

Grew up with them operating overhead when I lived in Hawaii in the mid '90's, and we'll get them very occasionally flying over my present living location in the eastern US. They're always loud enough to get people to stop and take notice!

I'll trade you some of our flyovers for some of your P-3 Orions though! Had one fly over the house a couple weeks ago, but that was seemingly a once every decade occurrence! Another common sight in near my old home that I miss. (I think it really was a decade since I had last witnessed one in flight!) smile.gif

Australia wants US Antarctic Programme, cables reveal

Australia is actively campaigning to have the United States pull its Antarctic operations out of Christchurch and move them to Australia, Wikileak cables reveal.
He targeted the veteran Operation Deep Freeze base at Christchurch in the wake of Australia opening an air link from Tasmania to Antarctica.

God...what next, lets give them(Oz) deep freeze in exchange for a hornet squadron based at CHC. Or better still, exchange the LC's etc with some U.S big iron squadrons....then deepen the port and let the nukes back in... winkyy.gif
The good old days....any of you remember seeing the USS Pintado (SSN-672) back in 78....amazing thing, and another one came in 79, but i cant remember its name......Ian?

I remember a few years ago, I went with my dad to a confrence at the Melenium Hotel on Memorial ave. We went to the bar & restaraunt for a bite to eat afterwards only to find the place was full of American's in Jumpsuits laugh.gif . Make sense though being so close to the airport in all winkyy.gif

I very sure it was the USS Sturgeon (SSN637) the lead boat , same class as 'Pintado' , visits also include surface warships , USS Truxtun and California or Virginia Class CGN
