MOTAT visit

Postby scaber » Sat Oct 29, 2016 9:42 pm

I was up in Auckland for a couple of days last week and finally managed to squeeze in a visit to MOTAT (it's taken me years to get to arrange this visit!), so to celebrate here are a few of my photos.

I was pleased that they seem to be willing to let us old farts in without paying but on the other hand they do seem to be restrictive in not allowing us to climb inside and around them! Any way, it was a great event for me and will certainly be on my list for future visits to Auckland.

Great Photos B-) , would have love to visit MOTAT again , back in my day 'Young Fart' was allowed on board the .. spose talk the talk and walk the walk , I guess it comes down to organizing a day and visit before the public hours , I simply score the day went the guy was doing some simple light work and cleaning .. I really wished I had a good camera back then.

Good point, Marty - it is nearly Hallowe'en after all

And speaking of old farts, we just finished moving 3,500 museum items from our former storage to a new place. Among them was a little can, about the size of a baby food tin, labelled "Ribbon of Bruges"...when we checked the details in our database, it turned out this ribbon was used in WWI field hospitals. A bit of it was burnt after a patient had used a bedpan, to clear the air. :givein:

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Self Addressed Envelope on the way, thanks Marty...

Funny, I drive past MOTAT a few times every month, and it's somehow never on the agenda.
Thanks for posting, Greg, must make the time...

Ha ha, yes I did see that and realised that it's even uglier close up so I just couldn't bring myself to lower my camera to that level of nastiness even though I was tempted just for Ian's enjoyment!

Good news Marty. I found the dreaded Airtruck tucked away in the corner of another photo so here it is in all it's glory for Ian to appreciate and enjoy . . . .

This is a heavily cropped section out of a larger photograph but it still gives an idea of the sheer weirdness of this beast of a flying machine

The Havard above does go some way towards redeeming this shot!!

Glad to be a motivating force for you, it's taken me long enough to get there
