I wish I could take the credit for taking this spectacular shot...... Apparently the photographer spent 2 weeks trying to capture the perfect frame - it was taken in Queensland with an exposure of 1/250th of a second and (In the words of the photographer) nerves of steel!!

Looks awesome. Are we sure that isn't photoshopped? Moon just seems to crisp and large vs the plane. Still, spectacular, and huge props to the photographer if indeed its genuine...

There ya go .. the sea of tranquaility and there is the lost half off 'Eagle One' ... so they did land on the moon !

Who knows - it could be a fake. One of the guys from work found it on the Nasa Astronomy Picture of the Day website so I think it might well be legit. According to the webpage the camera was attached to a 'Moon Tracker' device and correlated with known aircraft flightpaths in order to capture it......

WHAT!!!! are you saying that NASA integrity would have "edited" photos of man made vehicles and the moon together in one shot Nahhh they would'nt dare.

Well, there you go - sometimes life is stranger than fiction. It's certainly a 1-in-a-million shot, despite his preparations. He still had to have the moon in the right place, no clouds, and the aircraft pass just in the right place. Useful that the pilot(s) flying that route are so exacting in their routine...

Another NASA Picture of the Day - this time showing a Supercell - certainly on the list as one of the many nightmares a pilot hopes they never encounter!! Its a thunderstorm centred on rotating updrafts that can span several kilometers and deliver torrential rain and high winds including tornadoes. This supercell was photographed in July west of Glasgow, Montana, USA.



For those wondering whats in the foreground......... its a lone tree!!

Ooooooooooooooo! Now THAT's a meaty little storm. Shame we don't get cool stuff like that in NZ any more...
