An awesome day weather wise. Approx 90 aircraft dropped in with there being NO WIND for most of the day.

I was lucky to be offered a hop with local pilot Noel Bailey in his Jodel D18 ZK-JAC.

A couple of shots to share - with a heap in my gallery here - Gallery

Some minor disappointments... there were heaps of aircraft left hiding in the hangars that really deserved to be dragged out.
The Thunder Mustang arrived, saw how busy it was (I suspect) and departed after a flypast. No wind made the strip seam even longer.

Another small glimpse... from my GoPro HD helmetcam (in hand)... Youtube 6 minute video

Hey - when you turn up at a field and Noel says "hey... wanna hop", you just don't turn it down!!! I was delighted with how well the little Gopro video camera worked too (assuming you have clicked on the above video link...).
I would like to fit in some recreational flying but the $$$ aren't quite there.

I had an interesting chat with an Alpi 200 pilot. He is about to sell his $100K machine... not because he can't afford to fly it but at $2500 / tear for insurance, $3500 for a hangar, he has spent $6K before flying. Instead, fly the club all-ali two seater for $90 an hour.
I really would like a small single seater that fits on a trailor. I showed by wife the Mosquito Heli... yeah... woteva... smile.gif

As for the fence. Yes - it is still there I only heard about the "issue" the other day... Enough room for little stuff.

XRA (Extra300) did an awesome job as it comes in hot and there was no wind (how often do you see a hot air balloon at 11:30) but XRA landed with the lh wheel in the grass. He battled all the way but didn't break it. Harvard ENE was another one who was on the limit but did well.

Hi EflierNZ.

What were the results of the spot landing competition, who took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd???

Cheers,
KAG

"Instead, fly the club all-ali two seater for $90 an hour."

Do you mean the little composite storch that SAC operate or is there somthing else there to fly now? I have a rating in that plane but its been 1 year scince my last flight. Money is tight at the mo. Its ok though, you get 5 years absense before you have to retrain completely.

They fly in Whangarei. I suspect it's a Tecnam low-wing.

I'm looking at single-seat / removable wing ideas... in my spare time!!!
