Who was out at ChCH airport this morn , one off the earliest days i got up in a very long time , only to look out , and seems Sinapore Airlines now have no prob,s putting there triple 7,s on Rwy 29/11 , the first time this happened was 3 years back in the new same conditions , Now was anyone lucky enough to be out on Avonhead Rd to photo this .

Sorry Ian....i thought about it....the only T7 ive seen going in on 29 was a Korean one, years ago............bloody amazing

Mate, with the way the that Nor'wester is blowing at the moment, you could land an AN-124 on 29

I recorded a gust at 115km....its just ripping my place to bits.....i hate the bloody thing.....roll on a good old sou wester.
Your right Connor...with an average of 60-80 km of wind right on the nose, the old 124 would bolt in on 29.....what a sight.

Connor , some strange reason the Russians really put brakes on that baby , it displayed at Richmond in 1988 after showing of its landing capabllys took another 10/15 minutes before it taxied past , four years back i had the scanner on , obviously the first 777 , it circled a couple off times - landing the tower was going nuts almost something out off the Thunderbird s

Crikey - nothing escapes the forum it would seem!! Sorry, no photo's Ian - but I was in the ChCh radar centre at the time it went around and re-circuited for 29. It was enough to draw a few people away from their radar screens to watch it cruise around the circuit and disappear behind the trees on final!! And sure - it landed alright - but the runway was blocked for a few moments as it doesn't have the turn radius in order to taxi clear..... they had to get an aircraft tug out to help maneouvre it off the runway!!

Still, it's better that crabbing a triple seven in a 40 knot cross-wind.

I do wonder how they did yesterday , prepared with a tug or maybe modified the end off the runway ?

Damm i missed that....meant to be Gale force again on friday, i might park up and take a look. Most seem to handle the nor west ok, but the B1900's seem to be a little hard to handle in it.
Still waiting to see a herc on 29....but you never know when their coming in.

A few students at the Aviation Academy will have footage, we had a really good view. We watched it go around after some interesting crabbing on 02 and when it landed on 29 it looked like it was trying to stop before it passed 02/20. I might have some poor quality footage on my phone...

Would have made your day , hope post the footage , obviously they had a tug ready and waiting , was it tugged all the way back to the gate or get under its own steam .
