Apparently they are gearing up to have two of them back here by the end of October... we might be seeing a couple of big Russian birds in and around the Manawatu thumbup1.gif

The rest aren't due til next year.

Quite a beautiful (if not slightly mean) looking helicopter if I don't say so myself... really does seem like chalk and cheese when you compare it next to an Iroqouis!

Apparently its the landsprite?? Thats what they call it in Ozzie service and I was talking to a 3 squadron rotorhead at wings over Wairarapa and he mentioned that nickname. Dont quote me on that though as im not 100% sure

This one gives a good idea of the size of the beast. The one in the background is a Dauphin.

I can't ever see a picture of a Dolphin without getting the Baywatch music in my head.

Great pics. I do wonder if grey is the best tactical choice of colours though.

I heard from an inside source a long time ago that adding weapon hard points "isn't very hard at all"... but anything more than door guns is unlikely.

No we dont, and yes it is. Only options are either ferry it there on the back of a ship, make a lot of stops on the way, or borrow some Aussie muscle to get it places..

Very sharp!

(I really like that Dauphin too, but I have a bit of a bias in that regard!)

How much longer will the Hueys be around? Does New Zealand have a reserve element of some sort that would use them?

Example: Here in the US, the regular Army has been using UH-60 Blackhawks for quite a while, but Hueys were still operated by the Army Reserve up until a few months ago in a limited capacity I believe. Unfortunately, I think that they are all gone to either civilian operators, museums, or scrap now. (There may still be a handful in service until everyone gets the new Eurocopter UH-72 Lakota, but their time is fading extremely fast.)
