Brilliant show, apart from the wind on the Friday and Saturday and some morning "showers" it was very hot! Was anybody else there? If so id love to see other pics!

Here is a few from me:

Sorry there isn't much of a variety, I still haven't really looked through my pictures properly!
Like I said, I'm keen to see others shots!

Cheers,
James.

Thanks! I am just using a Canon 550D with a 55-250mm, nothing fancy unfortunately.

Cheers.

Great photos, you obviously know how to use to use your camera gear effectively. Looking forward to any future shots from you.

The 550D really brings out the colours nicely. Do you find that it adds or bolsters the colour in any way? Not having been there I can't compare, but your shots look "rich" yet natural. Great detail on the exhaust of the P40 (?). I'd love to have a real camera again (my last proper one being a Minolta back in '99) - my Finepix S2400 is pretty rubbish, really. Only good thing really is it's long zoom. But 720p video recording, slow autofocus (esp on video), poor contrast autofocus, no manual zoom / focus and very average imaging is disappointing. It's the sort of camera that's a pile of compromises wrapped up in a cheap price... poo.gif blush.gif

Scaber: Thanks a lot, I'm going up to Classic fighters at Easter so I'm looking forward to that, it should be a good show as always!

IslandBoy77: The 550D is a nice entry level camera. In the pictures I have boosted the colours a little. The images you get straight out of the camera are slightly flatter than what you see above and looks a bit more natural. Richer colours would probably been seen more if I had better quality lenses (the one I was using was just a kit lens). I have a 50mm 1.8 and the colours (and sharpness of course) are far superior over the 55-250mm which is what I was using at the show.
Here is a picture of the spitfire without any colour correction. (note I was shooting in Jpeg and not raw in this case):

The 550D is a fantastic entry level camera and I have been using it and the lenses for about 2 and a half years now.. I have been trying to upgrade my lenses.. but there are so many choices!

That being said I'm not a professional! There are lots of good reviews online though.. a DSLR is definably the way to go though!

Cheers,
James.

I think it will be a while before I have enough money free to even think about going back to an SLR-style camera. The Minolta 8000i I had was only a film camera, but it was great for it's day (and very expensive: around $5k if I remember rightly - and it was 92-93 I go it, not '99). I had a look at the original photo in the link you posted: still a very nice image, even at the lower resolution posted: if my S2400 could supply me with that level, I'd be happy.

I guess I might be able to get more out of my camera if I really delved into the technical stuff, but with so many "active" hobbies, photography gets somewhat side-lined into "point and shoot". Sad, but true. I did think at one stage of moving into photography as a profession (back when I got the 8000i), but although I think I've got an ok eye for composition, I don't think I could have made a living out of it.

Anyway, thanks again for the info and sharing the pics: it's very reassuring when Gavin complements your work... thumbup1.gif
