"Aviation is derived from avis, the Latin word for bird." bird ....bee .... close enough for me , but Im sure some anal retentive rivet counter will argue the point.
Maybe "off topic" would be the place.

Nice shot, great critters the old bumble bee huh.
I'll be very impressed if a rivet-counter can tell us the sex???

Maybe because its collecting pollen its a male? might be different from the standard bees tho?
Also might be a silly question but whats a rivet counter? maybe im to young to know that word? haha

Yes, nice shots Mr Whirlybird. Those are the sorts of shots I like to take - in fact, I've got a couple that are somewhat similar. Haven't been able to get any good shots of the bee family for a while, but the house I lived in last year had a cabbage tree in the back yard that flowered profusely, much to the joy of the local bees (not the bumble variety so much, although did see a couple in there). Which was great, because the tree wasn't too tall and the bees were easy to "reach" with my camera and macro.

Bee is apis, so we were so close to having apiators! Mind you...

Im always appi to be a armchair apiator , crikey in another posting - just over 900 bucks for a medical and i complain about 44 bucks !

Thanks from me also, and ditto to WhirlyB. I just got a new one, but it's image quality isn't as good as my last one, which is weird considering that on paper it should be at least as good. I think a good deal of the problem is that the "super zoom" lens, when it's zoomed in to anything beyond, say, 135mm, starts to very quickly muddy the image and make it "granular", which also adds in problems like poor auto focusing (and there's no manual focus: how I miss having that from my old manual cameras!) and chromatic aberrations. Unfortunately, though, money is far too thin on the ground to consider a proper DSLR...

Im the same. I have a T2I (550d) at the moment from B&H in New York and I want to upgrade to
a 1DX but its a bit to much at the moment. Having just finished my Microlite license and working on finishing my PPL and
building a jet boat I cant fit it in maybe next year....
