Wicked set of pics Terry. Some great fodder for the CS / milviz repainters.
How did you end up getting a ride in the old girl? Was it a charter?

PS of course I have to mention its not actually a Classic

Yeah it was a charter for a group of people including me for a conference in Palmy, Id have to say that the 200 series 737 has been the most interesting plane Iv travelled on, I just love those JT8D engines!

That is an impressive series of photo's , when the 737 were first introduced they did the very same thing even at Christchurch , sit on the brakes while the early engines spooled up , the JT8Ds had extra air inlet doors at the front of the nacelle as to increase airflow on takeoff , as the engines were further developed and higher rated these were removed .

You notice the reverse buckets rotated around , this was done during development test flights finding the directly up and down were not slowing the aircraft after landing as they were lifting the aircraft off the runway and could not have them sideways due to fuselage damage and blowing the windows out .. you find many photo's well 200s with soot stained fuselages .

I got a one hour jaunt in the reddavison simulator when it was in Christchurch 1980/81 .. my Simulator ride smile.gif

You will need to go overseas then as they have gone from our skies

Nice pics - went on NQC from PN to Auckland many years ago when Air NZ owned it
