Ahh, finally home again for 24 hours before I depart yet again for Auckland this weekend, then Rotorua, Tauranga, Whakatane and Gisborne next week. Hopefully I'll get some more aircraft pics, especially Gisborne where hopefully the DC3 is still on static display outside.

Interesting flight home, pretty mundane until approach, it appears ATC forgot to descend us, so we made a very steep approach, but ended up having to go around after we were still 1000 feet at the threshold. Nice views down on the airport as we went around, I was too busy hanging on to take snaps :(

Anyway, pickings were slim aircraft wise in the Hawkes Bay, but have a few to share..

Nice sunsets in Napier it seems. At Hastings Aerodrome I found this oldie. Poor thing needs some real TLC.

Yes it's a dash-8 because it has wheels on its engines when ATR's have them on the body. And ATR are alot bigger :plane:

The Biz jet VH-CRQ is a Falcon 200EX con #058 for those that are interested.

it appears ATC forgot to descend us - really!? weren't they reminded by the two passengers sitting up the front enjoying the view? funny how every time a pilot cocks up the approach, ATC was actually doing the flying at the time. <_<

Hehe, I get a choice of three of em here at Massey Trolly. ZK-MBA, MBB and MBI are all Seneca V's... Very nice aircraft! :D

really? Is that a general exsateration or did the pilot/atc stuff up that much :o what did the pilots do during finals in any attempt to get down faster? the Q300 has spoilers ae..

Just quoting the bois up front, 'he stuffed up the approach' was my reaction but I was just a simple passenger.

No exaggeration, the approach was steep as, engines reversing (sounded like it) cant see the top of the wings but i imagine spoilers, don't know. It was clear we weren't going to make it when we were looking down on the hills 500 feet from the threshold, I think he cut across trying to beat a 733 and therefore missed about 3 mins worth of descent time. It was fun, but he could have gone around allot earlier, there was no way he could make it from where we were.

As we turned on finals I could see the runway way below us, and close. Thought then things weren't right.

I'm pretty sure ZK-DCM is the ex Civil Aviation Flight one. They used to operate this and a Friendship - based at Paraparaumu.
