As some of you dont know about this place or have never been etc i thought id post my pic here for you to see what you must see when you come up to Auckland one day ,plus there are lots more now out side in the paddocks or under restore in the work hanger ,Wednesdays are the best as the old guys are there doing there thing and are full of info if you just ask them ,you are looking at about 10-15 years each to restore them to display worthyness

the teal that you will see is the only one of its model left in the world ,the westland wasp helicopter is still serviced by a crew member and proberly still could fly ,,there is just so much up there ,you should really make a effort to go see it all ...

looks like a beast to fly ,go there guys one day if you havent been already its well worth the visit .. there is texan /mozz/air tourer oz /and many more outside ,,but like i said wednesday mornings are the best time to check it all out as the work hangers are open with another 5 planes there ...

i had a mate who used to volunteer at MOTAT, he was responsible for the lancaster. told me great stories about them firing it up and taxing it around while they were restoring her, they got all four engines running on the old girl once, said the sound was something to behold, would love to hear all those engines fired up and idling away thanks for the pics

I took my boys for a trip to Auckland a couple of weeks ago and they loved this place, the flying boat is absolutely brilliant (purchased the book written by one of the members about his time flying the Sunderland, very interesting)

I went to MOTAT when we lived in Auckland, was pretty neat, but I can't remember much of it so I'll have to go again.
The Wasp actually reminds me of a wasp

Yeah that Westland Wasp is really the time/reason i got into choppers ,as a Devonport kid i was at a navy display at Devonport wharf where one of these did a big wing over kinda backflip and came straight at me and the others standing there ,i could see the guys in it and the whossh as it went real low level over us was the moment there ..ive had as much as a can do with helicopters since that day and have a radar ear for anything near by or coming my way
so that one in the pic means a hell of a lot to me as im pretty sure it was that one ,outta the eight they had ..

Never managed to get to MoTAT last time I was up in Auckland, but sure looks worth the visit
