Postby ScottyB » Wed Apr 21, 2010 10:36 pm

Hi guys,

Been out of the simming circles for a few months, so I have missed all the build up to this VLC.

Can I please have some info on it?

Ie:

- Expected FPS
- Features
- Pros
- Cons
- Release date
- Price
- Screenies
- etc
- etc
- And is it just for FSX?

Cheers,
ScottyB

Hi ScottyB- VLC is a project that I, and recently Robin have been working on for a long time now- It is a complete replacement for the 'base' scenery for the whole of NZ. What makes it different to other scenery addons is that it bypasses the traditional limits of accuracy (over 1km) by using vector polygons so small variations in landclass are much better represented.

Perhaps the best descriptions of what it is can be found on my blog by clicking my signature (although I do apologise about the state of the blog at the moment- the scripting framework appears to be having some issues so a few posts are a bit 'ugly'

Any other questions not answered there, just ask and I'll do my best to answer them

Hi Tim,

One quick question, if I may? Will VLC be dependant upon having SP2 installed? (I only ask because SP2 and my rig don't play nicely together). TIA.

I can't give a definite answer sorry.....Was it acceleration or SP2 itself that was causing issues on your computer? What were the issues?

Note also guys that it looks my blog is dead wacko.gif ....I'm hoping to have an announcement of a proper domain soon.

SP2, actually.

Dramatic drop in FPS (roughly halved).

Re-installed Acceleration again and using resized (tree) Autogen textures has (mostly) solved the problem. No stutters, FPS at 15, dipping very infrequently to 12.6 (and that's for no more than half a second). Not great, I know, but ... it's liveable.

Did you load the default flight between installing fsx and installing accelaration, if not then this is more than likely your problem. This is a critical prceedure discussed on many forums. even a defrag before and after Acceleration wont hurt.
What are your system epecs?

Hmm, I recently installed FSX Gold for the first time, I did not do any flight between the install of FSX and the expack acceleration. I take it I should of?
