FS9 Won't get past startup screen

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby victor_alpha_charlie » Thu Apr 17, 2008 7:19 pm

For some reason whenever I try to load FS9, It will get to the splash screen at the start and nothing will happen from there. It will freeze, even though everything else still works, and under the Ctrl+Alt+Del window says it is 'not responding'. I have tried a re-install, but it is still happening now, even though I have no addons installed. I'm doing an extra Virus scan now just in case.

Any Ideas?

Delete your FS9.cfg and let it rebuild a new one- happened to me a few weeks back, fixed everything.

There's two things for certain in life:
1) The sun will rise (Unless you're in Auckland and it's raining as usual..)
2) Ian will always have a witty remark! :P

Unfortunately it's happening again, deleting fs9.cfg doesn't fix it. Any other ideas?

Not 100% sure what you mean, but the 'Error Signature' in the Error Report window says "szAppName : fs9.exe szAppVer : 9.0.0.30612 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000 "

Ok.. so not much help
If you are looking for things to try and reinstall, perhaps try reinstalling/ repairing DirectX 9. My sim has a problem like this every few starts. Installing DX9 again hasn't helped me, but might you. I actually have to load FSX first, shut that down, and then start FS9 to bypass the problem. But, that's my problem not yours :P Perhaps try DX9 reinstall? Google it, and you'll find the download from MSft.

You could try deleting the default flight.

Yes, It's installed. I just downloaded a whole lot of a/c from flightsim.com and installed them, so I don't know which one it was.

Also the directx thing didn't work ;)

Another thing I just remembered Tom- try resetting your default flight to the C172 at Meigs- I corrupt my custom saved default flight a while back and that caused the splash screen to hang... bloody frustrating it was, but a simple fix in the end. Hope you have simular luck.

Make sure this line is in your aircraft.cfg
SITUATION=C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files\MEIGS

*obviously change the Andrew bit to whatever your PC user account is named ;)
