FS9 Installation folder

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

I am running Vista 64 and I have FS9 installed at the default location folder Program files (x86). is this the correct place or should it be the Program files folder. Does it make any difference to the simulator operation? What about an FSX installation?

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Try turning User Account Control off.

Also try right clicking FS9 and selecting Run As Administrator.

I have done both of those things. If I click Ok on the dialogue box the the next message is "building new scenery data base " or words to that effect and then starts. The issue is some scenery install permissions somewhere.

No one using Vista 64 that can comment on the installation folder question?

It is generally recommended that you keep away from the default installation locations with Vista, as Vista generally makes it difficult to change cfg files within the default program locations. I have both FS2004 and FSX installed outside the normal Program Files folder system for this reason.
