Stutter Elimination Hint

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Even though I had set my framerates in FS9 Options to 25fps, I was experiencing scenery stutters. I had done various tweaks to the fs9.cfg file, but wasn't completely happy.

Maybe I'm a bit slow to discover that the "LOD_TARGET_FPS=" was set to 17. Assume this is default, but I hadn't changed it since the various 'tweaks' I found online hadn't mentioned this setting.

I set this to 25, then, (just to see what effect it would have), set the Target Frame Rate in the fs9 Options to 'unlimited'.

Found that flight sim observes the "LOD_TARGET_FPS=25" rather than the fs9 Options 'unlimited' setting.

I now keep the flight-sim 'Options--->Display' set at 'unlimited' and the fs9.cfg setting to LOD_TARGET_FPS=25.

Scenery seems to display smoother, without stutter.

I can only conclude the setting of 25fps inside the flight-sim 'Options--->Display' was in conflict with the fs9.cfg 'LOD_TARGET' setting.

This rang a bell so I checked mine - it's set at 31. If 25 is default I must have changed it at some stage as a result of a "tip" from someone.

I have great frame rates and virtually no "stutters."

I only decided on 25fps because some multiplay hosts require fixed frame rates. Assume this setting is ok, since I haven't been booted as yet.

oh-oh...a little 'stutter' every now and again...so maybe I haven't eliminated it. Happens even if frame rates are around 40fps - a kinda pause to the scenery scroll on outside view.

Doesn't matter, I've got a new motherboard and chip on its way.

I don't suppose you have "Airport Environment Upgrade" installed? I found stutters like that whenever an airport moved into the view, as my computer had to load those bloated textures from that pack. (just advising you in case you do have that installed)

Cheers Goff! Unbelievably I had my TARGET_FPS set to 15!

Chucked it up to 30, and now my framerate hardly falls below the 20 mark, where as before, it rarly ventured out of the teens! biggrin.gif
