[RESOLVED] - FSX - Missing landing lights

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Hi guys,

I'm facing the same frustrating problem from time to time, and the only solution I found so far is a full re-install of FSX:

The problem:

My landing and taxi lights disappeared from ALL FSX planes (default and 3rd party too). By "landing and taxi lights" I mean the light effect itself on the plane (halo.bmp) and the polygons for ground illumination, as well. They worked before, but something was changed. I didn't install any 3rd party light or other enhancements. All other lights (nav, strobe, etc) work just fine.

What I did so far:

Reinstalled all light-related textures and effects
Performed a "Repair" using both FSX and Acceleration CD's (I've got FSX gold)
Tried to replace the halo.bmp
Tried to fiddle with the lights in aircraft.cfg.
I perform a backup every month, but I only keep the latest. I tried to restore that, however seemingly the light had been missing already when I created that backup....I don't fly at night too often...

This is nothing major but it frustrates the hell out of me, as I'm a perfectionist idiot....

Any suggestions? I don't want to re-install FSX again...that would be the 3rd time in 2011...

Cheers
Dan

I'm in the process of installing FSX to a notebook and comparing the effect files with my ones. We'll see how it goes....

Ok this is now solved. It was caused by a freeware aircraft, which overwritten some of the original effect files in the installation process.

Just an advise: Keep a copy of your original effects folder somwhere...

I feel your pain... More than likely it was an FS9-FSX conversion (MAAM DC-3 or the C-46), but I'm not entirely sure. You might have to do the same as I did. Send me your email address and I send through the effect folder (about 3MB). You just have to copy it, and overwrite everything when Windows asks you. Do you have acceleration?
