hey guys, just moved down to Chch, unpacked my computer and gear, set it all up and powered it up. Came up with the unexpected shutdown has occured screen so I hit the recommended repair option, waited a few mins and desktop background came up fine, looked away for a bit and heard a few warning beeps and then looked back and the monitor had lost signal! Tried another cable, same problem, tried a hdmi cable to lcd tv and same thing...
I'm stumped, any ideas???

thanks in advance

Without the shaking Jokes , i wonder if all plugs and connections are in tight , sometimes moving your PCs around can dislodge a cable and it will shut down .

What part of Christchurch did you move into ?

yeah maybe it didn't like the quake the other day! I had wondered about cables, hence why I changed the leads and tried the hdmi port, so externally the are fine. Were you thinking internally Ian? I've moved to Ilam from up in the Wairarapa.

Perhaps try and make sure everything is connected correctly first. Like remove the ram and gfx card and refit. Check your CPU fan and heatsink are tightly attached as well. I had this problem myself with the move from CHCH to Nelson.
(all good now Doug fixed my CPU heatsink!)

Have experienced the same meself after moving from Diamond Harbour back to Chch central. As Timmo says check your video card is mounted properly and, depending on how long your computer was packed away, your rig's battery. Even just turning it on (and leaving it run for several hours) will trickle drain power to the battery and recharge it. Well, it did in my case. smile.gif

Well after a visit to Gregs place for a look he had narrowed it down to being a crook graphics card, we just couldn't prove it. So dropped it to Austin and sure enough it was toast, so with a very affordable replacent option he put one in and set it up for me, very happy with the service by all, so thanks Greg and thanks Ian for the recommendation.
Might even attempt to enter the screenshot comp this month!
cheers
