Backup advice

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Okay,
Just purchased a new SSD for my OS, this means I should need to format my 2 current HDs.
In terms of FSX, how should I go around backing up things eg REX and other Payware addons.
And some products have keys that are required, (which I don't think I have anymore), Should I email the company and see if they can send a new one? or should the key still work?
As a side thought, since FSX has its own hard drive, will I even need to Format it?
Thanks
Alex

Don't see any reason you would need to reformat the FSX drive if that's all that's on it, though you need to get all the FSX stuff into the registry on the new windows install somehow which I'm pretty sure means reinstalling FSX ...

You'll need to keys to reinstall things so start asking wherevere you purchased them.

Use CloneZilla or some other sort of drive imaging software to clone your c: drive, set the new ssd as the primary drive and bobs your uncle. no fuss no mess with registry issues. No need to format anything.

Hmm, Ok so the SSD is blazing fast but I cannot copy FSX over as it does have many registry values and other folders not in the root drive.
Looks like a long day ahead of me... sad.gif

Extremely good advice from Rotordude if it's not too late ... Clonezilla looked awfully intimidating last time I changed my c: drive, I think I ended up with a nice free point n click clone tool from Seagate, worked a charm

Problem was that my C drive is bigger than my SSD so It wouldn't fit anyway
