Im running a Phenom 2 965BE, 8gb of ram and a GTX460 1gb. I'm getting some cr@p framerates on VLC and Supercity. It is dropping to 8 framerates when passing the city in the PMDG NGX 700. Would this seem normal for my system specs? Can someone reccomend a FSX tweak guide?

Hi there sorry to hear that, I have read an article out of PC Pilot Magazine and followed these instructions and I am getting 30 to 40 frame rates per seconds and it still looks good:

My PC specs are also lower than yours

follow these:

GRAPHICS SETTINGS:
*Target frame rate - set at unlimited
*Filtering - set to antistropic
*Anti-aliasing - set to 'on' - but may be better to set this in your graphics card settings
Global Options:
*Global texture resolution - set to maximum
*Lens Flare - demanding on resources but looks superb at high altitudes - probably leave this off
*Light Bloom - also very demanding so leave off
*Advanced Animations - Always leave on

AIRCRAFT:
Cockpit settings:
*Default Cockpit view - set to 3D unless you use 2D Panels
*Show cockpit tool-tips - set to on
*High Res 3d VC leave on
*2D panel transparency - of little use
Exterior Settings:
*Aircraft cast shadows on ground - leave off
*Aircraft cast shadows on itself - Leave off
*Aircraft landing lights Illuminate the ground - necessary so leave on

SCENERY:
Terrain and Water:
*Level Of Detail Radius - set to medium
*Mesh complexity - set at 50%
*Mesh Res - 50%
*Texture res - set at 60cm
*Water Effects - set at Mid1.x
*Land detail textures - always leave activated
Scenery Objects:
*Scenery Complexity - set at 'Extremely dense' unless you are flying at low altitudes
*Autogen density - set at a low setting
*Ground scenery cast shadows - leave off
*Special effects detail - leave on 'high'

WEATHER
Visual Settings:
*Cloud draw distance - reduce to about half
*Thermal visualization - keep off unless flying gliders
*Cloud Detail - leave on unless it is taking a LOT out of framerates
*Cloud coverage density - low setting
Simulation Settings:
*Download Winds aloft - keep on
*Disable turbulence - Why switch it off?
*Rate at which weather changes - leave on 'high'

TRAFFIC
*Airliner Traffic - takes a huge toll on FPS so set at 50% or lower if FPS are bad
*GA Traffic - as above
*Airport vehicles - as above
Land and Sea Traffic:
*Road vehicles - set no higher than 30%
*Ships and ferries - if you are landing at Heathrow or Frankfurt why would you have it on anything but 0?
*leisure Boats - as above

This is just what I have got out of the article but if you follow these settings I'm sure you will find that you will achieve far better FPS than what you are now - let me know how you get on

Cheers

I'd agree with most of that. I have a PC with half the specs of yours and can run VLC and Real NZ scenery at over 40fps most of the time (default planes)
Number one on the list would be make you have SP1 then SP2 installed (though I'm guessing PMDG is for SP2 only installs)
Can't help you with the PMDG though, but I'm not surprised you're struggling for fps with it in an area full of 3d buildings. Your PC will be working hard enough as it is just to maintain the PMDG level of detail, and stressing it out with extra scenery detail etc is going to drag even good PCs down.

For what it's worth, from my experience, FSX doesn't really need tweaking like FS2004 did.
tried www.venetubo.com/fsx.html ? Worked wonders for me.

I tried the link and am getting better frames now. It is running SP2. Frames when flying in the NGX past the AKL CBD building at 180knots has increased from 8 to about 12.
