Hi All,

Just a little assistance with a new PC my old one has finally died. Thee one I am looking at is Intel Core i7 4790 Quad Core on Gygabite motherboard, Nvidia GT 730 Graphics Card, 16GB Crusial RAM, Seagate 2TB Hard Drive does this sound about right to run FSX?

You will need to change the video card. The GT730 is not a real gaming card, and FSX will struggle with it (you wont be able to have all the nice fancy graphics and have then run smoothly). Look for at least a GT760/770/780 etc. The last two numbers in the Nvidia card number need to be 60 or higher, then you have a card better suited to gaming. Expect your cost to rise a couple hundred as a result, but its almost an essential. You can cut your RAM back to 8Gb to recover a few dollars if needed.

Not sure abt teh video card s have a 680 and its fine, but i would recommend a SSD 256gig for FSX, or if you cant, than partition your new drive and install FSX on the new partition. 16gig of ram is over kill for FSX 8 is more than adequate.

Yeah but if you're going with a 4790 processor might as well get the 16Gb at the time, leaves you open to do a lot more with the machine without having up add more later. What motherboard are you looking at?

Thanks for all the advice. Don't know the exact motherboard just that it's gigabyte, will have to check through the specs and see what the cost implications are and how far the cash will go.

The 780s really performs, they all say its the processor that is the primary, funny how I compare the old FS9 and FXS .. FS9 reliant on RAM and GPU and FSX on MOBO/CPU .

Gigabytes good, on par with Asus. To get the most out of that CPU I would be looking up around the Z97 series (Or comparable series) but that's just my personal recommendation (Don't just settle for one recommendation obviously) and for graphics, I would leave that to Ian or others to advise who does a lot more with them than I do...

Well the deed is done I have ordered the PC with the 16 gig ram and the 760 graphics, it is the Z97 motherboard. The difference between the 8 and 16 versions was less than I could have bought the ram myself so although it was more than I originally expected I hope it will do the job.

PS Ian the 780 was beyond the budget even dropping down to 8gig ram so you have to stop somewhere

Hi All
Well it has taken sometime to get most things up and running but I can report that the PC performs as well as I had hoped. I am running with frames set at 35 and it regularly runs around that mark. Even on fairly dense scenery.
It also feels very stable. Flying over Christchurch with the X file and Orbx it runs high 20 to low 30 but again very stable. The sliders are all set on the high side so all in all I am happy.

Not sure how to upload photos so will keep trying.
