REX - Soft Clouds for FSX

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Barrington » Fri Jan 16, 2015 4:56 pm

Hi out there,
I recently purchased the above download version, extracted as normal and went to install
but it keeps coming up with the following message - 'This package can only be run from a bootstrapper'!!!
So I downloaded again in case 1st was corrupted, but same message.
There is also no option of 'running as administrator'
I have gone back to the supplier and am awaiting some sort of solution (I hope), but I just wondered that
with our vast reach of Flightsimmers, whether anyone has struck this before and if so, maybe they could advise
a solution to my woes? This is the first time I have ever seen a message like this!
Am running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and 3.4 gigahertz Intel I 7 and 64 bit system. A 250SSD as the main drive
with both windows and FSX on board, 8gig Memory and a GTX660 Video Card with 1 meg on board.
Who knows, there may well be a solution out there.
Cheers and thanks in anticipation.

I'm no expert but http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/h4k032e1.aspx notes that certain components should be available on the target (i.e. your) machine. At a guess it may be that you are missing this pre-requisite software. Is there a list (in the Manual) of the necessary software needed to run SoftCloudsl? And, if so, is it installed?

???Huh???

I was referring to the problem Barrington is having with the bootstrapper error message. My best guess is that it has to do with the REX SoftClouds extraction .msi software looking for something on his machine (most likely NETFramework x.x) which may not be present which is causing the message.

Whoops! icon_redface.gif was not referring to your comment - was to be a reply for Barrington .

Obviously I got distracted last night, I was to add to it further, meaning all these addons have now the required as you pointed out , install latest Microsoft Netframework , after installing and reinstalling so many times I have done, you almost go past it .

Just wondering if you are trying to install this from within a zip file rather than extracting everything before running the installer. It might be that you are trying to install by running an .msi file rather than the .exe file.

Just had a question in case someone can answer it regarding Softclouds.

I already have REX essentials Plus installed and the Softclouds product sounds very similar to what I see when I fly with Essentials. Has anyone experienced both products and can explain what the difference is?

That is almost the question I was asking last night , Yeah .. as mentioned all these other addons .. again 'Shadow' , which before being disrupted .. winkyy.gif how much weather is there before the weather work or whether is it worth adding or we being a bunch off softies , whether that maybe depend on the weather .. Soft Clouds rolleyes.gif .. lucky we don't super tough clouds , they would be knocking planes outta the sky like Missiles smile.gif
