Problem with sounds

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

I run fsx acceleration on a windows 7 laptop.
Every time anyone says anything over the radio, including weather reports, stuff to do with missions, anything I say to atc, all other sound stops. It will start again if I turn the sound off and on again.
This happened in FSX, sp1, sp2, and acceleration.

Emanuel , If i'm reading you right .. you start a flight - no sooner you are off the ground you get ATIS chatter ? Damn annoying YIP! .. simply go to the first radio channel , you will see a switch between to radio channels with the arrow , just click on that and it will turn the chatter off smile.gif ........ if you require screens on how to do it , let us no cool.gif

If you are trying to get a radio contact , press the TAB key and all options should appear , if that dose not work ,manually adjust the radio to know channels .

Hi there, I am striking the same sort of issue. When I contact ATC or when Ai contact atc the sound goes quiet to the engines and I am unable to hear anything this also applies to missions when the guy talks the engine goes quiet and hear nothing. Any help will be much appreciated as a last resort I will reinstall FSX this is the first time this has happened. :plane:

First step is pop into the sound options in FSX and make sure your sounds for pilots voice and all other sounds are pointing to the correct output device. Also do the same in Windows Sounds settings as well. You could also delete the FSX.CFG and restart the game letting the config file rebuild itself

Follow Owen idea first but before you need a full install, you do have a repair option when you put the FSX DVD in the PCs tray.

HI I have had a look in the Flight Simulator folder and tried to find FSX.CFG but could not find it. I was going to cheek first before I delete the wrong one.

Cheers :whoops: :whoops:

You will be fine, it still there but hidden, Greg , my computer scientist showed me how to do it ... I lost it as well after a PC went into the shop  ... Ive had FSX since two hours after release and I simply forgot or brain fade .... For the fix

Click 'Start' and on the right side - you will see the 'Control Panel' -

Go to 'Folder Options' , first see if General you in the 'Navigator pane' - that is bottom one , make sure the top one is ticked.

Click on 'View' - under 5 icons it will have a folder called 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives. - 'Click' on the bottom line saying show hidden files... then 'Click' Apply in the bottom right hand corner.

If can now close the control panel and on your Desktop go the file 'Named' your computer - mine simply is called 'ian' click to open.

From here your first folder called 'AppData' which has only recently appeared - Go to 'Roaming' - down to Microsoft - you find FSX.

That is were you can see your fsx.CFG file .

Many thanks for that and the step by step instructions :D. I have had not so much luck with sound coming for ATC. I will try the DVD fix and see what happens otherwise I will reinstall and hope for the best, Its a shame as I have never struck anything like this in FSX. The only issue I found with one of the airports was Wanganui with a radio tower placed on the airstrip.

I will wait for your response before I do reinstall FSX. B-)

For a start , do a screen of Wanganui and some information off your addon's regard to a R/tower in the wrong place ... , thought your aircraft addons as well this may, lead to the problem.

I do have one Idea , copy and paste your sound file to the desktop (this is back up only) , then run the FSX DVD in Repair mode , this will put all sound files back to default.

Check out your sound setting in FSX (Settings-Sound) and make sure that you actually have your speakers and/or headset selected as the sound device to user rather than just Default Device. In my case I use the headset for voice and the speakers for engine and other sounds. In your case you may want to select speakers for both.

I went into the settings no its fine. I have done both FSX fix with the disk in and still nothing. I have been trying to :google: the problem and it does appear to be a regular problem but haven't got a clue to fix. I am a bit puzzled :givein: :givein:

I'm mystified and a bit stumped by this. I guess you've tried double clicking on the speaker icon shown in your picture and checking the settings in there. But anyway, the sound is working until ATC comes up and then it mutes if I'm reading you right so that suggest the settings are basically ok but when the voice comes up it mutes the other sounds and then doesn't return to the environment sounds.

I'll keep thinking about it but I'm not confident of thinking of anything new. :(

If you do come up with an answer please let us know what you did.

What was the last aircraft installed before the sound played up, that is one thing to look at, do a step backward.

Looks the case, a complete remove, search anything related to FSX and delete it , and not having anything else install really is a weird one , good luck on your mission, see you on the other side.
