I decided to return the ram to PB tech and order the ram I actually wanted originally....thanks Doug.
Actually I didn't take it back but my partner did. I got the return invoicevia email and was gobsmacked to see I was hit with a restocking fee of $60!!!
20% of the item cost re stocking fee!. What a blatant profiteering rip off scam. $60 to put 2 sealed sticks of ram back on the shelf and 2 min to process the return (which re-enters it into the system anyway).
Far from impressed.

EDIT: I noticed that the RAM I want is now in stock so I contacted the manager of the store via skype and explained that I was far from happy with the restocking fee and he agreed that it was a lot and would probably have credited me all or at least some of the fee however as a solution I proposed that I purchase the new ram that I originally wanted from him and in exchange he would credit the restocking fee in total. He agreed with no problems at all.
I have to say that dealing with the manager was easy and it has restored my faith in the store although the same successful outcome might not be the case with a straight forward return. I guess it would depend on the product.
I now have a machine with all the parts I planned.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!
