Some allow this, most don't, from memory, the installers generally get the location from the registry, so on a system with both FSX and FSX-se they will only find FSX. Of course plenty of scenery doesn't even come with an automatic installer, so you can just plop it wherever you like, and activate it. There's a lot that will work, and a lot that people will have problems with. That's why it's a matter of giving it a go and seeing what happens.

One quick thought for those who have uninstalled FSX -- a solution might be to use the Flight1 Registry fix, pointing the FSX registry to the FSX-se folder. That won't help with automatic activation in the scenery library, so I'd skip that if available and do it manually.

The best solution to installing scenery in a simulator that it wasn't designed for is the Estonia Migration tool. I've never used it, but everyone seems it find that it works as expected, and saves a lot of bother.

As I said, there's always the option to use Ccleaner, which I wouldn't use generally, but it is very good at doing fiddly little clean-ups like this.
I have used CCleaner for years, but I would uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller which would clean out the Registry. Am I correct in assuming that I will not be able to run any of my old NZ Scenery in FSX SE. I have heaps of Laurie Roach scenery which I guess will not run either. I know you don't use Steam for FSX, and this may be hard to answer, but where could I go for NZ scenery to run there, as I like to do my flying at home. I even miss my Paraparaumu scenery. I may have to ditch Steam.

I have FSX installed on my C Drive SSD and FSX Steam Edition on my WD Elements Portable Hard Drive .You shouldn`t have to ditch Steam. I have had no problems installing add on Sceneries , Including VLC , All Real NZ Scenery & Laurie`s Scenery on the PHD. When installing Real NZ (self installing) you are given the option of browsing to the drive where your FSX Steam is located. Laurie`s Scenery you just install into your FSX Steam Add On Scenery Folder and Library in the same manner as you do with your FSX . Trust this may help you.
I am about to reinstall all my programs starting with VLC. I want install this into Steam which is on my 1TB "E" drive. However, I have FSX Gold (without any additions) installed on my "C" SSD drive which has my OS. If iI start to install VLC it looks as though it will install it on my SSD, as it will look for this in the Registry. Is there any way I can direct it to Steam, or would it be better to uninstall FSX Gold from the SSD. I wonder how you tackled this problem as you have the same setup as myself except you have a portable HDD.?

It`s so long ago that I cannot remember how I managed to install VLC & it`s Addons onto my PHD. All I know is that at the time FSX was allready installed on my SSD and I had no conflicting issues.I suggest you contact VLC support at vectorlandclass@gmail.com. You will find this address at the bottom of the VLC installation program Manual PDF.

Thanks. I may just uninstall the FSX Gold I have on my SSD drive and that will hopefully solve my concerns.

That is one thing FS dose conflict with if there is another FS sim on the same HD.

If you don`t want to continue with FSX Gold, when you remove it, why not re- install Steam on your SSD . It`s much faster and you should get a better performance than you will on an ordinary Hard Drive. I know that when I changed over to an SSD my loading time and performance for FSX shot up quite substantially. As I said previously, I installed Steam on a portable HD and whilst the performance is okay the loading time is pretty slow. Just a suggestion only, for you to consider .
