hey guys,

well after alot of humming and harring, i have gone and brought a new pc, first thing i did, pull it apart smile.gif (total nutter eh)

Specs are as brought:
Acer Aspire M7720 (don't normally buy pre built PC's but the deal we got i couldn't build on of the smae specs for the price
Intel Core I7 920 @2.66ghz
3 gig ddr3 1333 ram
ati HD4850 1gig video card
1tb hard drive
windows vista HP 64bit
22" AOC HD monitor

just in the process of outting on fsx, will see how it runs, now i am planning some mods; i am going to swap the 1tb HD and put in 2 500-640gb hds (will use the 1 TB for the old system that is moving to the office) will upgrade the ram to 6gig as well, also going to throw windows 7 on it as well,

should leave the old system for dead, or atleat beat it to the finish post!!

well have just finishd installing win7 and did some testing with FSX, it is very intresting
used MAX settings for all but the autogen which was set at normal, and 5% AI(default) traffic and 70miles cloud draw distance for all tests

breakdown of results are as follows,

VISTA Home Premium 64,
Default no tweaks fresh install of FSX
Friday harbour 20 KSEA 14
Service Pack 1
Friday Harbour 36 KSEA 25
Service Pack 2
Friday Harbour 36 KSEA 24
SP2 DX10 Preview
Friday Harbour 36 KSEA 14

Windows 7 Ultimate
Default no tweaks fresh install of FSX
Friday Harbour 22 KSEA 16
Service Pack 1
Friday Harbour 27 KSEA 18
Service Pack 2
Friday Harbour 25 KSEA 18
SP2 DX10
Friday Harbour 27 KSEA 14

FSX with Tweaks to cfg
Friday Harbour 34 KSEA 16

it is very intresting to me that vista has so far given me better frame rates and performance than windows 7. haven't been able to put my finger on why this is the case, you would think that win7 would be faster given it has been on all other pc's i have. will see if there is somehting hiding somewhere that is causing this

What tweaks did you do to the FSX cfg Jase? I did one small one the other day and I gained a 2-4 FPS

i put the bufferpools, fibrefractiontime and that was about it i still have alot more fiddling to do, but at the moment i am looking at going back to vista and tweak that, surely would be better to tweak from a higher frame rate starting point, i might also add that the vista had a 1 tb hard drive (have 2 500gb hd now) and was preloaded at the factory with all the acer programs running in the background, so that in itself is rather impressive!!
