Unable to resist a TradeMe buy (FSX DeLuxe plus Acceleration pack for $25-00) it looks like I might be about to go "Over to the dark side." It is in the mail as we speak.

However, years of foul-ups and dramas has taught me not to rush into these things, hence these questions that have occurred to me....

(A) I am on Win XP ( and won't be going to Vista in the short term) and am running DirectX 9.
Does the FSX installation load DX10 automatically, and will this create any incompatabilities with my FS9, which will be staying ?

(B) I understand that the Acceleration pack install the updates SP1 and 2. Is this correct. I have already downloaded SP1 ahead of time but it appears it won't be needed if I install the Acc pack,?

Anything else I should be considering...?

Cheers, Bazza.

If you are using a XP system it will just install the dx9 compat version ,the dx10 demo is normally works as far as i know with a 64 bit vista system or new 7win, there is someway to get this working with XP but ive never tried,

All you have to do is install FSX deluxe let it run once ,then pop in the acceleration CD , this installs SP1 SP2 service packs plus the extra Aircraft and missions from Acceleration Cd ,thats it ..
if you want to work with the fsx SDK you will have to install the sdk pack from deluxe and then the SDKs from acceleration CD as far as i remember and then activae it if it hasent done it auto in the FSX DDL file ,we will be able to explain more if you end up doing so ..

Im glad you are looking into moving on in some ways ,and what a great deal you have got $25 wow, there are also some tweaks you can do with the Nhancer program that i can link you to later also ,this will get FSX running like youve never seen FS run .. thumbup1.gif

Thanks for your quick reply..

My concern with the DX issue was based on a install a few years ago that went sour....I remember that once the DX stuff is in, it really takes some work to clear it if it goes bad.

I'll go and do a bit more homework before the mailman gets here. Been looking at the neat stuff you guys have been doing lately and thought it was time to move on somewhat.
Can't see me letting go of my FS9 though, to many years of adding on to walk away.

You will find most of the stuff you had in FS9 will work somewhat in FSX with some modding ,the friendly guys around here have already done it or know how to do it so let us know when you get there ..
as for dx9 dx10 stuff there is not many things that can or will go wrong with your install ,it all should be ok

I had a fair few issues with the Acceleration pack on my old FSX install. Mainly texture problems (black props etc.).

So ... for my new FSX/Win7/64 I left it off and just used the service packs. I really don't miss any of the Acceleration "goodies".

At this stage, I'm also not very interested in the contents of the Acceleration pack either, and recall comments like yours in the past - one of the reasons
I've asked for opinions. I already have the SP1 so may follow your steps, thanks for the input. tongue.gif

I used to have the full set of VATSIM multiplayer utils running on my old FSX (with Acceleration) but have yet to add them to my new (non-accelerated) FSX.

I'll pop a note here if I get any multiplayer "gotchas" but I remember being able to connect (via LAN) to a friend's non-accelerated (but patched) FSX with no problems.
