Thinking of getting a widescreen monitor. Been running a 4:3 till now. What is the best aspect ratio for FSX?
Any recomendations for a 24"?

I use a 26" and think you would find the graphics card will decide your best option when adjusting your FS settings to the monitor

Using the GTX295-1792MB GDDR3 card , settings are 1920X1200X32 .

Wow that’s a good graphics card, I only have a ATI 4870, so it might be working hard to run a 24â€￾ monitor.
I see there are 2 native resolutions for that size 1920x1080 & 1920x1200.
I am assuming the 1920x1200 is the best for gaming.

Which will have a more proportional image for gaming.
In particular flight sim, I don't want to see oval gauges on the instument panel.
The 16:10 are a lot more expensive, so I assume that is the one I need.

There will be setting to suit that will ensure you wont have oval gauges .

It's called virtual cockpit biggrin.gif

I've just moved from 22" 16:10 to 23.6" 16:9, but haven't used FS enough to know whether it's better or worse. 16:9 is good for movies too

Could some of you clever blokes post a screen shot of a VC in 1920x1080 & in 1920x1200 so I can see the difference.
Preferably a 172 as I am more familiar with them.

I thought I'd bump this thread rather than start a new one.......

I thought I had narrowed down my choice to three LG W2261VP 22" widescreen LCD's and was about to lay down $1000 for them....... however my favourite retailer has just informed me that they've now sold out of them. They've offered me a similar monitor, but it has a 5ms response time as opposed to the LG's 2ms. He told me that its not a big issue for flight simming....... but I'm not convinced. I'm wondering if any members have any experience with response times - I just figure the faster the better!!! My choice now is to go for the 5ms monitor for the same price - or go to another retailer and pay slightly more for the 2ms monitors!!

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mat

In theory less ms is always best (and I'm sure the Apple fanbois would agree ... tongue.gif ). I've got 2 monitors - 1 5 & 1 2 - and I can't say that I've seen an appreciable difference for any sort of gaming. Possibly it depends on quality and brands and how they get the image to screen. DCR or contrast ratio wuld be important, too.

Thanks for the reply....... a lot of other forums are saying the same thing. I've decided to just pay the little extra and get the best I can afford......
