I'm trying to find the cfg files for individual Fsx aircraft so I can change the pilot's viewpoint and zoom ratio. A Microsoft site pointed me to SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\aircraft.cfg . However, this folder does not seem to exist in ....\c172\.

The problem I have is I'm using a TripleHead2Go in conjunction with a TrackerIR which brings the panel so close that I can only see the top of the glare shield without getting a pain in the neck. With TrackerIR the keyboard shortcuts don't work and they have told me that the only way to rectify it is in the aircraft config.

Can anyone please help me by pointing me to these files; giving me a hint as to what I'm looking for in the files; and how I would change them?

Also I'm keen to remove some of the default aircraft I never use, to improve the startup times. Can I just move them to a folder outside of Fsx or will this effect the other default aircraft?

Regards

You should be looking in your main fsx drive
QUOTE
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\c172
for win7 or for XP op system

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\c172
this is the only place the c172 can be unless you have it in another drive assigned 4 FSX install D E F G :\Program Files \Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172..

Aicraft.cfg is a file which is in each of the aircraft folders under simobjects/airplanes. You can edit it using any txt editor ( ie; Notebook) and you need to look for the following section in the cfg file:

[Views]
eyepoint= -3.95, -0.85, 1.9 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

Just change the relevant position to a smaller number to move further away and save the file.

Note that the aircraft.cfg may be a hidden file so make sure you are able to see all files in explorer.

Thanks for the very prompt replies. I have found the file and changed the eye point values. However Vista will not let me save the modified file. It tells me;

"Cannot create the C:\Program files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\aircraft.cfg file.

Make sure that the path and file name are correct."

The windows that follow clicking OK will not let me either.

Can you suggest anything I may be doing wrong? I have modified the main FSX config a number of times with no trouble.

Just save it as aircraft.txt and then rename the original aircraft config as a back up ( aircraft.old_cfg ) and then rename the aircraft.txt to aircraft.cfg.

Are you using windows 7 or Vista? I had that problem in Vista but have not encountered it in Windows 7. It could be becuase your aircraft.cfg is hidden or read only as well. You could change the file attributes but i find the renaming method just as easy.

Thanks ZKIWI you have been a great help. I can modify the file, now it's just a case of fiddling with the values until I get it right.
Thanks again.
