I saw this today, and thought it might be of interest to those who were unaware:

What is a LED monitor?
The term “LED monitorâ€￾ generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In a LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used as the light source.



One of the great features of LED Series is its ability to dim the backlight completely for pure darkness during dark scenes such as a night shot in a movie. Contrast ratios refer to the ratio of the brightest colour to the darkest colour. With traditional CCFL backlit displays, contrast ratios are limited to the fluorescent lamp’s ability to dim in order to reproduce darkness. However, with the LED backlight, each LED has the ability to completely shut off allowing for a near infinite ratio of black to white contrast. The end result is true blacks that result in greater overall image quality.

Does one use more power than the other to run??

Id say the LED uses less like the lights ,anyway how about the fact you have to replace the bulbs in those LED screens like the projectors after so many hours of use ,how many hours of life would they give you compared to the life of a LCD in normal use 12-15 hours a day ?

A quick BING search yielded a common life of around 50,000 hours for an LED. It varies with model, so one would have to know what the actual hour rating is on any given monitor / TV / whatever to be informed of it's expected life. I wonder how the LED screens will fare once they near the end of their life - will they be "rechargeable" or "bin-able"? And will anyone care?

Anyway, if 50k is average, that's 2083 days of continuous use, or 5 years 8 months. But seeing as how some of us sleep at night , I think it would be safe to say that one should get 7-8 years. I doubt many of us will keep our monitors that long: I don't...

I've got a 23.6" Chimei LCD and a 22" ProView LED - and I find the Chimei far brighter and nicer to use than the ProView. Both are less than 9 months old, although the ProView was a 'reconditioned' unit, whatever that means in the real world (other than it has 1 dead pixel that ProView refuses to sort, even though it's warrantable, as ProView no longer has a presence in NZ thanks to the collapse of MorningStar, the computer importer I purchased it through & who handled warranty...)

Yeah well 5 years is pretty good seeing my last Lcd died after one year 24 hrs a day use, the new one i have now i got the five years extra cover warranty which i should be able to cash in on i hope within 1 half years , Id have to look into LED more to see how it looks to my eyes ,if its good enough id then be helping to save the environment with the amount of power saving

Wow according to the info in the link you gave Island Boy, LED will give a 40% saving in power consumption compared to LCD.

That alone would put them at the top of the list for me.

LCDs are handy as a backup heater , Marsbar loves em sits in front off emm , little chance to do any work

If you want to heat your house, buy a plasma TV. They are most efficient at converting electricity into Heat. If they didn't have the cooling vents along the top side they would melt.

Nice one! Perhaps that explains why Farmers is selling the 50" models for $1200 at the moment. Having said that, that's a heck of an expensive heater...
