Ok this is probably gonna be a dumb question but I'm having problems with configuring my throttle and collective properly. I've googled the hell out of it but can't find the answer.
Back to basics but which axes exactly do I asign? I can get both throttle and collective response to a certain degree but not enough to lift off and its startin to bug me!!
thanks in advance

Wow - you're brave! I've come across a couple of instances where aircraft refuse to take controller input thru Win 7 64-bit, but not in Vista yet.

So, let's back up a bit. Presumably Vista recognises your device, and you are able to go through the calibration process outside of FSX - yes? Does your G940 need to have drivers loaded? If yes, make sure you've got the latest ones from Logitech. If the G940 just uses standard Windows USB gaming drivers, make sure you have the latest Logitech control panel software installed. Once you're sure you've got all that squared away, and you're sure you haven't got any connectivity issues, we can go onto the next step.

As an aside - I'm surprised you can even get FSX to load in Vista with only 1GB of RAM. Typically, you'll lose anywhere between 400 and 600MB to Vista & various subsytems & the antivirus. I know you are looking to a new rig, but since that could be some time away, the least you want to look at in the interim with your laptop is 2GB, pref 4 if it will take it. Since it's an older model, you should be able to pick up the right RAM fairly cheaply, and you'll get a much better fly. As well, having so little RAM could well cause problems with FSX - has anyone else here tried using something similar to the G940 on a 1GB Vista system? If yes, any issues? I know the CH gear is pretty easy to configure, but I haven't spoken to anyone using Saitek stuff which might be a better approximation in terms of complexity to compare with the G940.

haha brave is one word for it!
I only just got the G940, didnt come with a disc but I downloaded the driver from the logitech website, selected 32 bit and vista as OS. So fairly confident I'm sorted with that.
I can calibrate it in the logitech area, and also in FSX itself with no problems. Every other flight surface works except throttle and collective. I can even load up a flight, look down at throttle and collective lever and they both move, just not enough for flight.
My new system is not that far away, should be knocking on your door in a few weeks smile.gif
and yes I agree, my laptop is tragic for this but I can't just not play it!

Hmmm. It sounds like exactly the same problem I saw on my Win 7 64-bit system over the weekend. One aircraft (the Maule) would exhibit that fault, and another (172) not. I was only having a quick flying to check frame rates and some scenery I had just loaded, so I didn't pursue the issue any further. Anyone else able to help H500Fan trouble shoot this weirdness? Sorry I'm not much help on this one - I'm gonna tinker with my system over the weekend so will see if I get the same problem I had last weekend. If I do and I sort it, I will post back here.

In the interim, to get a little more life out of yr lappy, do you know how to stop Services in Vista? There are a few of them that can be permanently stopped, set to manual or disabled - do a BING or Google search on the subject - you could up the performance a few percent just with a little Windows tweaking. Also, if you're not flying online, disconnect yr LAN cable (or switch off yr wireless) then temporarily shut down yr AV. Lastly, switch off your hibernation file and indexing, then give yr lappy a darn good defrag with MyDefrag available from www.filehippo.com - it beats the heck out of the Windows defragger: using the "System Monthly" setting. Also, you could do a good Registry clean with Glary Utilities and Tweak Now's Reg Cleaner - but you need the old version of TN's cleaner - 4.71 as the new one sucks. One also needs to run it with the Option set to 'Extreme'. And lastly, use Free Registry Defrag 3.0 to crush the gaps out of the registry & make it more efficient. Actually, I'd leave the HDD defragging until the very last.

A couple of handy 15 or 30-day fully functional demo tools I also use are TuneUp Utilities 2010, and Raxco PerfectDisk. However, I'd need to PM you details with them to get the best out of them. Of course, my new systems come with all this either done or installed for the end user.

On assignments, the twist throttle in the rotorcraft is usually assigned to the prop pitch axis, collective pitch to throttle axis.

Edited axis error

Success! changed to those assignments and it flys! thanks rotordude. And thanks islandboy I'll endeavour to do those things to my laptop to help enhance what little performance it has.
cheers guys

Hi there, have you heard of this programme before - http://www.fs-force.com/. Apparently its a must have for F-Feedback devices in Flightsim as microsoft's force feedback is tragic. Check it out. Ive heard very good things about it and Logitech also recommend it.

Cool thanks Andrew, I had turn the feedback right down to almost nothing because it was so annoying and random!
