Hi All. Well I'm back to ask another question. My system is running so well and i loaded up FSX to give it a go. It runs perfectly and the PMDG 747 looks and handles amazing. The problem I'm having now is that everytime I use Squawkbox (like type a IFR clearance) it locks up and freezes FSX and FS9. Anyone had this issue?

Check you don't have pause on task switch enabled. Although if you did when you click back in the FSX window it should run again.

Thanks for the tip, i checked an don't have that active. I play FS9 more often, and this is definately freezing. As soon as I push enter to submit type in Squawkbox FS9/FSX completely locks up, mouse stops working, graphics freeze, and the sound stops. The red pause message doesn't appear, and after about a minute, it kicks back into life. Annoying as when i take off and make the airbourne report at say 2000ft, the game crashes and the controllers response never comes through.
I can play FSX and PS9 for hours and hours problem free, but only have an issue when running squawkbox, and only when I type a message and hit enter to submit the message.

Wow.......... that sounds bad! I use SB4 on FS9 without any problems! Yours could be a result of an antivirus program or firewall issue. The antivirus program NOD32 in particular is known to cause big problems. Are you running SB from inside FS or as an external program?? You could try doing one or the other to see if it makes a difference. I've also read that low spec systems sometimes hang - what are your specs?? Sadly, the only other solution may be to reinstall SB4 in the first instance - if that doesn't work you may have to reinstall FS9 and FSX or [GULP] EVERYTHING

I use SB4 on a low end system for FS9 and FSX without problem, but when I reinstalled FSX recently SB was doing weird things, so I uninstalled it completely via the uninstaller then deleted all folders were SB related then used CCleaner to remove all reference to it.
I did a reinstall of SB and all seems ok now.
Try that route first without fiddling with your FS installations.
Good luck!

Have you check on the Squawkbox website to see if it is 64-bit compatible? While FSX is a 32-bit app, not all 32-bit apps are written equally, and the sort of thing you experience is not uncommon in gaming circles. I can't run Far Cry (yet) on my Win 7 64-bit FSX rig because it has issues with the 64-bit video driver & I end up with a slide-show. Yet it runs very well on Vista 32-bit (my main work PC). As well, is your version of SB the latest? I've never used SB myself, but know a number do. I just spoke to a friend who used to use SB (who has now changed to FSINS), and he said he was able to run it fine under Windows XP 64-bit and Vista 64-bit. He did say that there are 2 versions floating about: 1 for 98/XP, 1 for Vista / 7. The other thought I had is perhaps it is being blocked by the firewall? I've noted that firewall access requests that pop up from games / game components usually don't come to the front on the screen and one needs to Alt-Tab to get them to show, or run the game in Windowed mode.
I hope perhaps some of that might help.

I'm using FS9 and SB4 on Win 7 64 with no issues........ although I haven't tried typing in a clearance......... I'm working on the sim today while the wife is away so I'll test that aspect of it for you and let you know if I have any issues......... I think a reinstall of SB with ZK-MATs suggestions above would be the first thing to try.........

Hiya........... I fired up FS9 and SB4 and had no problems typing in a clearance, so I'd say it must be an issue with the installation on your end. Let us know how you get on.........

Mat

Thanks for the tips. The system is a couple of weeks old a Phenom X4 965 with GXT 460, so I'm ruling out any performance issues. I did do a reinstall, but will give it one last shot. Might try out FSinn if I still have problems.

Well, still having issues. I'm thinking it may be a conflict between SB and Active Sky on windows 7 64 bit. Anyone use the same applications? Any problems?
