Gidday Guys and Gals,

I had given to me a projector that is relatively old and has finally blown its bulb, I used it for FS9 and FSX and was good now that its bulb is out, and will cost a 2 arms and 2 legs to replace it and with the advances in LCD TVs, what would be the better option to go with, a monitor specifically used for a PC, or a LCD Tv which I could use for both watching TV and PC Gaming thoughts? pros/cons?. Remembering whatever i do get will most probably be a big improvement on the old projector.

I use a 'full HD' 1920x1080 Samsung LCD 32" TV for FSX and it is brilliant - it sits on my desk the same distance as a normal monitor so the field of view and immersion is great... these days the 40" TV's are so cheap I would go with that size

Ian , id follow huskers recommend , i have just purchased a 32 LCD TV any bigger as you no would have to move out , Sony Bravia 40" are only $1295 at Calder Electronics , pity no your big bulb prob now , last Friday they had a sale 30% off ..... got the 32 at $675

I find the TVs LCD to be to dark or pixeled ,i have a 37inch and it will only display at 1024x768 with pc cable , my card also connects with HDMI lead which lets me display 1280X720 or 1920x1080 though all options don't look as crisp/good as my main PC screen which is a 20 something LCD displaying at 1680x1050..

id just get a big LCD PC screen

You do have to be careful with LCD TV's and make sure they can do 1:1 pixel display @ 1920x1080 - some have a tendency to scale or overscan on default settings so you have to find the right settings. Once you do then they are as 'pixel sharp' as a normal PC monitor. And you do need to use HDMI of course... I know Samsungs are generally fine at 1:1 pixel mapping.

My one it will display at 1920x1080 but it says its not the recommend setting and says 1280X720 is best ,ill try again tonight with some different card a tv settings see if i get a awesome picture which id love to see from my PC

Do you know what the native resolution of the panel is? It will take a 1920x1080 input but is probably downscaling. Is it a Panasonic 37" LCD - I have a 3 year old Panasonic 50" 1360x768 plasma that won't display a 1:1 image from a PC so they sort of suck in that regard (thought it makes a great tv!)

Yup its a 100hz Panasonic 37" LCD Viera about 2 years old for me now but that doesnt mean its not been in the shop for awhile longer , not sure but im sure ive seen a setting for 1.1 somewhere just haven't had a chance to check yet as family still watching it ..
