Installing Repaints

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Just got FSX, and am having trouble installing repaints. To start with I just downloaded a couple of default paints off ARNZ, works fine until I go to edit the cfg file. It won't let me save after editing, and just says "Access is denied." Any ideas? I'm new to Windows 7 and FSX. I'm the only user on this computer and have administrator rights. Thanks

Windows 7 is very protective of anything in Program Files, which is why some people recommend installing FSX outside the normal Program Files folder. But I think it is possible to edit the files, from memory you save it outside Program Files, then move it back.

When you save it do you click 'save' or 'save as'?

I click save and it works every time.

Ok thanks, FSX automatically installed itself somewhere called C:/Program Files (x86). Will try that and see if it works.

Save, and it comes up with "Access Denied"

Go to your FSX folder, right click then go to Properties. Click the security tab then edit.

You should see: Authenticated Users, SYSTEM, Administrators (User-PC\Administrators) and Users 9User-PC\Users).

Click on each one of them and tick the box beside Full control for each Group or user names. Once done click Apply and OK.

That should work.

I have windows 7 and have no problem installing repaints. I also have installed FSX into programme files no worries.

User control settings have a lot to answer for with win 7. If you go to control panel, system and security, change user account control settings. Then change the slider to never notify.

Good luck.
