Did some searching here couldnt find any info. When trying to take screen shot a box comes up saying "unable to take screenshot".
Can anyone help. Gotta get a screenie in for next months comp of course.

Does this happen in full-screen, windowed or both?
Having part of the FS window off-screen in windowed mode can cause this. Also using a different resolution for FSX and your desktop.

And related to this, it can also happen if you have the FSX window extended onto a second monitor.

I use a separate program for taking screenshots, one that was recommended here, Ifranview. Handy little program that does lots of other things as well as taking screenshots, and I can save them directly in jpeg format.

Might be worth googling for a dedicated screenshot program if you are having problems with the V button.
