Hi guys

I have decided to upgrade my computer to a new graphics card and a new CPU I only want to spend around $400 altogether

My systems at the mo are: 500GB Seagate Hard Drive
Radeon HD 4350 512MB DDR2 Graphics card with 1Gb of Hyper Memory
2.51 GHZ processor
4GB of RAM - (3.5 usable)
Windows XP

What do you guys suggest I upgrade to are these cards good? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=411891290

and these CPU'S? http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/compone...n-413524183.htm

Cheers

Are you currently running a AMD or Intel cpu? Are you running FS9 or FSX? If FSX then you need to get rid of XP and move to Win7 x64

Yeah and RAM is cheap so if moving to Win7/64 why not buy some more while your at it. (its a slippery slope though smile.gif

If you upgrade, you will most likely have to upgrade your mobo and RAM, I would suggest you drop the 6770 and get a 5770, they are the same card but the 6770 costs more. The CPU will be perfect for FSX however.

I have historically used ATI cards (a hangover from using AMD CPU's) but I have always struggled to get good results in any FS setup.
After seeing the results of a quite basic Nvidia card in my laptop compared to my more advanced ATI card in my desktop I will be changing to Nvidia.

Sorry I am running AMD and are running FS9 and FSX but are looking to use FSX more

what Nvidia cards would be a good choice - and also why would I need more ram?

It would of been good.... years ago. That computer is a bit outdated.

To be honest your probably looking at a full system upgrade, especially because changing your processor will probably require, new RAM, new CPU, new Mobo and maybe a new PSU.
If you went for a video card upgrade you won't need to upgrade anything else (Maybe the PSU because you haven't told us what it is)

As a side note, I have never had a problem with AMD cards in FSX, but I have never owned an nVidia card either, so yeah, video card is not really the most important part for an FSX PC, And I can vouch for the HD 5770 because I had one, it run FSX well for what it costs.

I can vouch for the fact that I have a computer with specs maybe a little lower than that, and I can run FSX just fine.

It would still run FSX better than my computer - and you would get at least 20 frame rates wouldn't you?

Ohh yeah, it would run FSX better. It won't run it at Max settings, but it should give reasonable FPS. The 9800GT is about the same as an HD5670, which is quite a bit faster than your current card, it also allows for future upgrades as the motherboard is fairly new.
