I have been looking at solid state drives and came across the intel 320 series and after searching on google I found out that there was a rather major error that causes the SSD to become 8mb in size, though i have read that there is a fix from intel for this but i am unable to find any decent information on the drive after this.

My question to you is does anyone have any information on this issue/bug or does anyone here own a Intel 320 or other SSD and what is there experience with it and could give me some advice?

Many thanks,
James.

Yip. I have a 40gb Intel 320 series SSD and so far, I've had no problems with it.
Also, firmware updates have been released for it, so the problem would have been fixed by now, I would recommend the 320 series, very good performance and usually cheaper than the others

Works a treat, firmware update and SSD utility to download off Intel website....wouldn't be without it now. Am running 80gb Intel as OS drive and 80gb Intel with FSX and scenery solely...cram packed with super loading speeds smile.gif

CL has some of these drives (40GB, 60GB & 120GB) with "bonus" reward points at the moment; eg 40GB SSD instead of 13 points you get 300 (so $30 off a future potential purchase).

I have recently discovered the 'joys' (!!!) of the Vertex 2 OCZ SSD. After googling the problems with this drive, I wish that I had not bought it. Trying to update the firmware is a nightmare, and judging by the forums/internet, there are a lot of people having similar issues. I might end up replacing it entirely, although that will mean yet another install of FSX.

Many times I have wished that I could just install a program or hardware and not have to spend hours adjusting settings or updating firmware. Technology has a lot to answer for.

So Intel SSDs are not alone with problems.

smooth landings.

Can you not just install the firmware update onto a CD iso file and boot it from there? That's how you update Intel SSD's
