After running the newish computer at around 4.2 GHz for a few months, I decided to up the speed a bit to see what difference it would make. I am only using air cooling, so probably will not approach the speeds reached by those with water cooling. I have a MSI motherboard, so overclocking is very easy via their Control Panel. I have been taking things very cautiously, so each increase is given a few hours to prove itself. At the moment, I have the 2500K running at over 4.7 GHz. The top temperature recorded was 63 degrees, although when running at 4.7 GHz plus, the tempertures normally sit in the high 50s. Even near 4.8 GHz, I have had no shutdowns or problems.

I am going to continue to SLOWLY increase the speed, but from now on, the increases will be very small, and I will try them out for much longer, to make sure that all is OK.

Either way, the i72500K has proved to be a great chip, and a huge improvement on what I had before.

Chip overclocked, graphics card overclocked, only the brain is still at stock speed!!

smooth landings.

That's great man, you could try aim for 5Ghz, you might get there ohmy.gif, but is it an i7 2600k or an i5 2500k??

It is the i7 2500K. Great chip!!

If things stay stable then I will slowly edge up to 5 GHz, but one small step at a time. And all of this with only air cooling.

Oddly enough, I have found that video editing is harder on the chip (and hence temperatures) than running FSX.

Smooth landings.

Oops!! Sorry, in my excitement I got confused icon_redface.gif

It is the i5 2500K chip.

Well spotted. Just wondered how long it would be before somebody spotted it!!

smooth landings.

Good results! Just be aware as we head into the summer months* that ambient temps will be rising so the ability of the air to carry heat away from your components will be reduced. So be prepared to reduce your clock speeds to suit smile.gif
* Its raining very heavily as a write this. Summer....yeah, right haha
