Having a problem with the aircraft nose hunting a few degree laterally and, especially when configured for landing, bobbing slightly vertically. Makes the final approach fairly twitchy. Could this be an FSX glitch or is my three year old X52 showing its age? I also use EZDOK but none of the 'movement effects' are turned on.

I don't think it sounds like a joystick issue , i wonder if you have another program you could try the joystick on to confirm ?

Try calibrating the joystick with FSUIPC rather than through FSX (which is cr@p at best). Worth a crack, and has the added benefit of spike smoothing, response curves etc etc smile.gif

I have an X-52 and also use EZDOK (which I don't think is the culprit). For some reason, I've always had a lot of yaw twitching - with whatever rudder I've used. Some aircraft (Mustang, P-40) are nigh-on impossible to take off without running off the runway.

If you're using the twist-grip rudder, then you'll be getting these rudder twitches as you move the stick around. Try setting the rudder "dead zone" to filter out these small movements.

I also have a full version of FSUIPC which, though great in loads of other areas, has never been able to cure this rudder spiking. I've tried with and without the axis being controlled by FSX. I strongly suspect that it's the X-52 (hardware or software) that's screwing things up. Saitek has always been a bit wacky in that respect.

If you haven't got the full version of FSUIPC, it's definitely worth getting.

Invested in the latest FSUIPC and have great expectations after setup. Most of the heavy horse taildraggers have a locking tailwheel which removes a fair amount of the takeoff agony.

It's well worth trawling the FSUIPC forum - as it's a hugely complex/powerful utility.

Be warned, though ... RTFM before posting there as Pete Dowson gets really cheesed off with people posting questions that could easily have been answered in the manual. That said - when you do post a genuine query, he's very friendly and helpful. Also - I'm not entirely sure whether FSUIPC checks for updates, so make sure you check for that - monthly or so - as it's still being actively improved.

I'd be interested to know if it helps. BTW - are you using the twist-grip rudder?

Found what appears to be an excellent step by step tutorial (15 pages) - my immediate requirement is to get the stick calibrated. Got a hunch this may be the answer. The vendor, SimMarket. shows FSWide as a separate purchase item, anyway I got the first $32 worth.

Hmm although if is dirty sensors/pots then all you are doing is masking the dirty signal that the joystick is creating.

Oldendirt- If you are reasonably handy with things, it's not too hard to take a joystick apart and check for any obvious signs of dust build up etc.

Do you mean "WideFS"? If so, you don't need it! It's mainly for running FS functions over a network - or controlling additional panels etc.

Yeah Adam, the more I read the more I learn smile.gif. Other than the FSUIPC install, I can't pinpoint what I did but it seems to be cured. Did I miss your "Inspector" tutorial?
