I've a question about downloading files - especially large ones. Last week, thanks to the help of some forum members here, I was finally able to successfully install ORBX's NZSI into the FSX setup I have the D-drive on my PC. Then, earlier this week, I encountered some problems after installing some ORBX-compatible freeware scenery and the NZSI.002 service pack update. The fix was to uninstall everything ORBX and start over (choosing, however, not to install the freeware scenery), and then re-install NZSI, which went fine. However, I went to download the NZSI.002 update this past Tuesday, but I was called away from home to run an errand, which forced me to cancel the download from the ORBX site while it was still in progress. Now, today, I tried to download the NZSI.002 service pack again, but instead it only gave me about half (approximately 500MB) of the full 1.01GB file, which, of course, won't extract properly and is unusable. So what can I do now? Is there something at my end I can do to reset the downloading process, or is it a matter of just waiting a few days for something to reset itself automatically before I can download the full file successfully again? I've run into this problem before over the years while downloading other FS files or when I used to download music when LimeWire was still in business, but In never really pursued the issue then, but I'd like to find ways to resolve it now, especially since I've managed to get NZSI up and running...

Neil , if you have someone close by who send you a memory stick with the installation and you use your license and registration and simply return the USB stick , that is allowed and it works fine or a download manager is a great help if you constantly great crash's half the way thru it saves it then resumes the download .. these managers and tools are free , I some simply use the Explorer IDM (Internet Download Manager) .

You can clear your browser cache, and get rid of temporary files. Some 'budget' ISPs have their own cache set up so that it will hang on to any files as if it's life depended on it, so sometimes it just won't work for a few days.

However it sounds like you really need a download manager. I've recently been trying to redownload REX from the Flightsim Store (about the same size as a typical Orbx download), but this was almost impossible until I installed GetRight.

Definitely want a download manager of some sort.

I use Download Accelerator Plus here which is a multi-threaded downloader.
I have to download just about every MegaSceneryEarth state that comes out for our work here... These are massive files at over 30Gb per state on average (the last one was 67Gb).
Using DAP with 10 concurrent threads from the server, I can download at 13 Megabytes per second (that is actually 13 Megabytes of data going to my hard drive). This equates to 104 Mb/sec transfer speed which is about the max my cable connection delivers

So for convenience, get a download manager that supports multi-threading (if the download server supports it) and one that also offer resuming, and all should be hunky dory!
