Quoting from another forum:
"These files have awkward names created from the date and time when they were captured. The sample file I used for this discussion is named 2009-3-23_22-58-49-425.BMP. Interpreting that name tells you that I hit the V button on 3/23/2009 and a time of 22:58:49.425."

That's fine, that is what I thought it was doing - but having done that, why does Win7x64 not sort them sequentially?

I started a flight today, at Greymouth, then trundled up the coast to Westport, before threading my way through the valleys to get to Nelson, by way of Murchison and Nelson Lakes. I took screenshots at each significant point along the way, but when I came to view them in the folder where they go, they were not only all over the place, but had shots from earlier trips several days and more ago mixed in.

Does anyone know where I can fiddle with this filename setting and make it more practical - fr'instance 2013-10-13_0001 and so on?

You can choose to sort them any way you wish, it sounds like you just need to tweak the sort method. 'Sort by: date; Descending' works best for me for screenshots.

Rob, as far as I know, sort by date ascending is the default setting, and I haven't changed that on this particular folder - in any case, for these files, a sort by filename should produce the same result.
I'll have a closer look - but I don't know why the time stamp names don't sort properly. Maybe the names themselves are too long?

Thanks

Well, while I was asleep, I got to thinking that maybe Irfan View was the source of the nuisance. I updated mine, and as I was looking through the screenie folder, I noticed that it was it was bringing up days 1 12 and 14 before days 2 and 27, and day 7 after that. So I was reduced to reading the help file, and found this:
"The sort option by Name differs from by Name (natural) by a different interpretation of numbers in file names. With by Name File10.jpg is sorted before File1.jpg. With Name (natural) the sort order is File1.jpg before File10.jpg."

So, all fixed now.
Of course, if the default dates used leading zeroes for the day, it wouldn't be a problem at all...
