Thought I'd post this as I lost about 5 hours of my life trying to work why my FSX wouldn't load full screen. I resolved the problem but put up with it for about week, so hopefully will give a potential answer the problem for anyone else who may experience the same problem.
The setup: 3 monitors running off 2 video cards using SLI, this uses surround to extend the desktop over all 3 monitors.
The problem: What was happening was when I went to full screen by pressing control enter the monitors would flash to desktop for about half a second, then black for about 1 1/2 seconds and then FSX for about half a second then back to black for about a second then to desktop again. I could extend windowed FSX to cover all monitors easily and would work fine.
The cause of this turned out to be a corrupted update to the video card driver, about 5 days before I noted the problem NVidia advised me an update was released. I dutifully downloaded and installed it, Set up SLI and surround and everything seemed fine: the desktop extended okay.
Didn't fire up FSX into full screen for about a week as was tweaking (As you do). Once I discovered the problem tried the normal suspect of desktop and FSX resolutions set the same which it was, so put up with windowed mode for a bit, then last night I got sick of it and resolved to fix it.
Re installed the driver from the downloaded update, checked the GFX cards seated and the bridge was okay, pulled them out and reseated them, swapped them around, tried another bridge, wasted a few hours on Google searching for answers, and was at a total loss what to try next.
I considered rolling back the drivers, but then thought what have I got to loose, so re downloaded the latest drivers and reinstalled them, set up SLI again. What do you know - it works in full screen; the original GFX driver update must have been slightly corrupted, but appeared to be working fine in windows and in FSX in window mode.
Hope this might help someone in the future or if they are struggling with the same problem at the moment.
