Hi Guys,
Just been wondering what gear everyone uses. See the odd one has built their own but most would be using of the shelf stuff.
I have a multitude of hardware, seem to have accumulated a lot before I found what suited me. Currently have Microsoft FFB joystick.
Two FFB yokes, a Microsoft sidewinder and a Logitech extreme 3d.
It seems so easy to accumulate these devices and not knowing what you have till you start looking.

Cheers
Les

Les , I go the three primary's , today I stick with Saitek .. Yoke , throttle quad and rudder pedals , the early years 14 to 15 years back was the CH products, now with the Saitek I have pretty much every primary switch lever with out hardly touching the keyboard ... I have a joystick to test bits and pieces on this PC but never return to that mode again .

I have had a number of different joysticks over the years from the old micro-switch equipped Suncom Slickstick for my Sinclair Spectrum 48k and Commodore C64, through the Microsoft Precision Pro, and many others for various Flight Simulators, to my present Saitek Cyborg X FLY 5 joystick....>>> http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/v5stick.htm

All of my sim flights are only used for low level explorations of FSX programmed scenery, in conjunction with various terrain maps and Google satellite maps, so a simple, flight joystick suits all my needs for manoeuvring pixels around my Computer Monitor screen.

For proper flying, a real Cessna 150/152 has suited all my needs.

"Flight Simming", like Train Simming, Truck Simming, etc, is all in the mind.....trust me!.... biggrin.gif ...!

I put my money into a Saitek X52 Pro stick & separate throttle setup. The joystick is very smooth and centres well without the tension I felt with my previous Mad Catz Fly 5 stick.

Has done me proud, and not expensive.

Recommendation from the flight sim fairy ... and trust me ... the Yoke throttle combination with rudder pedals .. Just in case some one is looking over your shoulder when you read this I did not say it unsure.gif

I used to have the CH Yoke and pedals, but got annoying to have it in the way when I fly airliners on autopilot most of the time, so now days I've sold that and just use a simple Microsoft Sidewinder joystick that's also done me proud for probably near on 10 years..

Thanks Guys,
By the way what do the likes of Robin and Doug use, as they seem to be heavily into dev and wondering are they all up market with their gear.

I think when you decide or have the choice on what you need , I still recall how different the feel once rudder pedals yoke and throttle , adds a more fluid feel , cuts out the static solid affect with a single joystick.

Tip:
On my Saitek Cyborg X FLY 5 / Mad Catz 5 Joystick, I found the centralising spring strength far too strong, causing the Joystick base to tilt annoyingly in all directions when operating it!

Removing and replacing the spring with another more suitable one proved far too difficult/impossible, so what I did was to feed two tie-wraps (opposite sides) around 4 of the upper coils of the spring, and pull the ties very tight, and cut the excess off.
This tightly compressed most of the spring length, leaving the remainder of the spring length to gently return the joystick to centre again with only a very light pressure, and makes its use much more pleasant!

The original joystick spring is far too strong!

Otherwise, the joystick is excellent.
