I have Windows7 Pro 64 bit running FS9 & i see that i am eligible to receive Windows 10 for free. Will i be able to continue using FS9 on Windows 10? Also i notice that FS9 is currently loaded in Program Files [x86] & as i have 64 bit should the FS9 program be moved to Program Files?

Not from personal experience (I run FS9 on WIN XP as intended wink.gif ) , but I have read several times that the place to put the sim is in its own folder e.g. C:\FS2004.
That way you never get tangled in the "permissions" argument apparently.

whathesaid.gif Quite right - especially with Windows 8 and therefore likely for windows 10

I was part of the public Beta for Win10 and had horrendous results with FSX. I am hoping they fixed it after I gave up trying, not sure how it will run on FS9 given it is geared more for 64bit systems. I Would suggest just giving it a try but backup first...

Yes, I don't think I'd want to rely on Win10 for my FS machine, I'm happy to wait until it's released. Although I'd love to try it on my little tablet...

My thanks to all for your replies. I have successfully moved FS9 into "C" drive. I see i have one year from Windows 10 release in which to take up the offer.

I couldn't measure it as I was too impatient! - it was windows 8 preview - not the final version.

Just had another thought - I'm sure Steam will have something to say to MS if FSX no longer works when Win10 is released. I think that we are pretty safe.

If in doubt, there's an old saying... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..."

Impatience has no part in testing. 0.2 was what I was getting with FSX on ORBX global (The only addon installed) in the trike over Friday Harbour... Now I would suspect they resolved this but after several weeks I gave up. Win 10 ships with DX12 and is heavily geared for 64bit running. FSX is 32bit only, uses 2 processor cores and shipped with DX10 PREVIEW mode. Generally all round it screams incompatible but I would be happy to test it on the public release if anyone would be interested

It's funny that since FSX was first released, only those with the latest and greatest systems were really happy with it, but I guess that one day we'll all have to keep a 'dinosaur' around just to use our simulator...

I always try and keep up to date, but I have lost some software along the way, including my favourite image editor, which didn't survive a new operating system. But on the other hand, we have some great new tools coming out from time to time, so you'd be mad if you didn't take advantage of new stuff.

However I do like the idea of Windows 10, and I have looked at installing the preview on my tablet, but I might just have to be patient and wait for the proper release. I just get so much use out of the tablet, I'd hate to lose any features just for the sake of checking out a beta. But I am constantly aware that the desktop/metro disconnect is a bit more pronounced on the Windows 8.1 tablet, and win10 seems to go a long way towards fixing this.

Its like many of the machine addons I have here do not work with Win7 hence the reason still use XP , I was in my ole work place again today to help with setups and get machines running and Craig pointed out to me this DINOSAUR ... and it was still working fine, only used for machine coding, that PC was thirty plus years old.

Yeah, I have a couple of XP machines around in case of emergency but although some things didn't work in 7/8 I found reasonable substitutes so have never gone back to them.
