FSX will not play Nice

I am trying to install FSX and get the message:

Error 1722 There is a problem with this windows installer package.
A program run as part of this set-up did not finish as expected.
Contact your support personal or Package Vendor.

So I tried the Microsoft solutions page and ran the MicrosoftKB928080 fix.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 9c2?auth=1

Suffice to say it still will not install ,coming up with that message right at the end of the install.

I am running Windows 10 and have had FSX installed before but due to a problem had to reinstall windows which caused my FSX install to go bye byes :@

Just hoping someone out there can give some answers

This is not much Help, myself had a perfect running system till Win10 decided that's to go and that's to go, I was able to restart FSX and install tho it almost is a case of tricking the computer, have you tried 'Repair Install' , this will uninstall what is already gone but could re-write a new FSX registry to restart a fresh install.

The repair should get you going, Insert disk 1 simply follow the repair instructions, seems to be nutty rather have the program to completely remove it.

That is Disk 1 FSX, on placing the DVD into the PC it will start whinding up like your in a Nuclear Power station, It takes a little while, it will settle down then it gives your the options. Only two tho , remove or Repair ... to the repair department we go.

Leave the DVD in the PC and start it down/ restart then explore the DVD , go to application only and then repair.

What this dose it stop the automatic install, you can then explore the the DVD , look for the setup.exe application, It might restart and install , I have had to do that many times when re-installing, instantly putting the DVD in and it auto starts it will not play nice.

Have had a small break through, I guess you could call it that, buts that's really the view of a super optimist. What's really happened is this. I still have the errors at the end of the install saying blah blah not going to let you run this ha ha .So I resorted to devious means. I managed to install the sim on my other no.2 PC on to a Apacer 128 gig pen drive. Then copied the files off that into my FSX install or what was left of it after Disk 2 had finished with it on my no.1 pc. So then hoping for a miracle clicked the fsx icon in my install and of course the ole fsx was not happy, saying and error had occurred blah blah blah, piss off in other words. So I left it at that ,pretty much gave up ,had enough and dreams of flying multiplayer over my 2 machines were over. Then as you do a few days later you have a another go. I ran the fsx path fixer or what eva its called. Its a little bit of software from some clever people that corrects the path to FSX in the registry. So I set it to my current install. I clicked the run FSX tab in that programme and bugger me she fired up, not happy about it as the same error message comes up but good ole FSX ignores that load of malarchy and gets on with loading scenary files and the like. So I have a sort of hacked install working, only problem now is there is no multiplayer option I also have no fsx in the programme files list. I recall this happened years ago but no idea how I fixed it. This will have to do until I can figure out why hell it want install properly.

Dinga, sometimes ya start wondering what the hell, just recent I had the entire FSX depart even without asking it to, fortunate I have this computer expert who stops here and mentioned the 'registration and the whole deal' , I guessing if I got a brand new PC, brand new HD's - FSX would play the part and install, I'm very sure its in the memory, I can't tell you how to find it as removing those 'Funky Chicken' files.

So I have ended up giving up trying to get FSX installed from my original disk set on my main gaming computer as its just not worth the hassle of starting from scratch as that may have be the only way forward.

I ended up paying 29 >nzflag< nz dollars for FSX from steam and it works fine.Still can not network with my other machine as I planned as steam is not that generous and it seems you are required to pay another 29 >nzflag< nz dollars for that particular privlidge. :@

Thankyou for all your support Ian :groupwave:

Hello Dinga -
I don't use Win10 and I don't intend to. At the moment I have two Win7 machines on my network and two Win98SE (Second Edition) MP3 jukeboxes.
SuperBeast has my main FSX+Acc install in C:\FS10 and my old FS9.1 in G:\Classic FS. This arrangement fixed the clashes I was seeing when both were on the same physical drive, even though I was using different language.dll files. (which write changes to the cfg files in Users\App Data\umpty tumpty tum)

MiniBeast has a very basic install of FSX+Acc, mainly for rapid recovery when I accidentally delete all the default texture files, for example.
All the machines on my network talk to each other via an 8-port D-Link switch, and can reach the internet through my Dovado router, to my 4G wireless modem.

I can start an MP session on Superbeast, and join it from MiniBeast, where I have an aircraft carrier controlled by a stand-alone autopilot software. I can then fly in Superbeast and practice carrier landings. This works through the switch.
I can also join an MP hosted by Ian, logging in from both of my machines, when both Ian and myself can land on my autopiloted carrier, but my provider's security settings don't let me host a session which Ian ( or anyone else) can join.

Hope this helps

Now we have to do that again very soon ! B-)

Sounds like the bug which appeared in Windows 7, and has been a pest ever since. Easy enough to overcome, though, when you click 'ok' to add the airport, the folder will open, just click any BLANK area within the folder white space.
