I couldn't remember where the last ones where so I thought I'd start a new thread where everyone doing a build could post pictures, tips, questions etc on cockpit building.
cheers. Maybe the admin could stick it up the top for easy access?

cheers

here are a few shots just showing the gear and flap handles now in position and wired up and working. Also I have mounted the keyboard on a couple of hooks so it is much more like selecting keys and switches on a proper panel now. Since these shots were taken I have remounted the Mags but still have to rewire them.

Most of the shots are of the GPS unit I am 'trying' to make. It will eventually be mounted over the spare CRT monitor so I can just drag the FS GPS in behind. Then the buttons will hopefully work and have the picture changing correctly as I do. Thats the theory anyway.

got sick of the kids pulling my sim apart to use the computer so have decided it's time to make my own space.

to that end I have started on the contruction of the real ZK-TGY, my Beech Baron

first step is to clear out the garage and make some room

if you see what I mean!

starting with the frame for the base

holes are for access for wiring looms and airhoses etc for later

checking the fit

fitting the panels

base ready to start building on

the first (rear firewall) frame has been cut out and joined - I just didn't get a photo of it yet
eventually I hope to build from just behind the front seats to a point about a foot in front of the
canopy using ideas I have picked up from several sites on the web and what I have nutted out
for myself - I think the electronics are going to be the hardest part once I start trying to build and
install the instruments etc. I guess we'll see when I get to it.

it might take a year or more ( especially saving up funds for various parts etc) but when it is ready - GARAGE PARTY! B-)

airhoses - gonna try to connect up the overhead air vents for fresh air/ heater etc - plan is to use either an old fan heater or some of the old computer case fans I've got laying around.

just another couple of shots of progress last night

I have an old car seat that one of the kids dragged home during the inorganic collection a while ago so am using that for testing till I get a pair from the wreckers next pay.

the 'fuel' level seems to be getting a bit low there - time to refuel.

these show the rear firewall in position to give a measurement reference. Then I started positioning the supports for the seats and have a board just resting on the angle to show where the floor level angles upward around the rudder pedals.

if anyone has access to a real Baron and can give me some pictures of close up detail both interior and exterior I would really appreciate it.

cheers

*cough* :google: *cough*

Just joking... its actually harder than you think... most people tend to take pics of the exterior or the cabin, rather than the cockpit... weirdos! anyway, I managed to find this and this

and also... you may find this site quite interesting... Baron58.com is all about a Baron58 cockpit build... some pretty far out stuff here... like the real Garmin 296 GPS unit... running in simmode!!!!! :ph43r: Those things are about NZ$2000!

thanks HCP

yeah I've googled and searched just about every site online and looked at about a gazillion photos and have the Baron58 site on my favourites list along with another site as well but it's really hard to find some good close up photos of the detail work.

just little things like what the rivet detail looks like up close etc. minor things like that. I know I'll never get it to be an exact replica but if I start off trying to get correct then I will drop back to being pretty close. so the theory goes anyway.

cheers

Being a Bar Tutor i can't help but ask about your little thirst quencher there. Do you like rum by itself or with something? Secondly are you mad about rum or was it just your choice of the night?

Bacardi and coke
I like all three versions - clear, dark and oro

not that I'm picky but just about any spirit - I like the whiskies as well and the odd bourbon
very partial to Tawny port

export gold on the beer front but laying off that for a bit as it puts on the weight
otherwise stella artois

not a fan of heineken or steinlager

VB is good as is darwin draught and there were a few good beers in norway, denmark and germany. Everywhere I went I always asked what the local brew was and had a try of that - sometimes it wasn't a pretty site afterwards! I also had a good run in with a bottle of Ouzo on a beach in greece. oh and the whisky trail in Scotland was a real highlight!

CHEERS

ps - not that I drink a lot. it's just a hobby - really - honest.
