Have financial controllers approval to get a yoke & pedal set - any opinions on the best - Saitek or CH?
Also
- Not sure though whether the budget stretches to both the pedal & yoke - would it be best to just get the pedals if that all that can be afforded? - I am currently using a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro 2 joystick with twist for rudder control.
- Does anybody have a second hand yoke and/or pedal set for sale or know of anybody selling theirs?

If you buy the yoke, you need the rudders. You cant fly without them (You cant use the yoke to taxi as you can with Joysticks)

Yeah you can, turn on auto rudder, then just turn the yoke left/right to turn on the ground left/right. Not as realistic, but if you can't get them both, then it works....

I like Saitek (only used in Harvey Norman on the shelf, not used CH) The Saitek throttles the yoke comes with are cool. Comes with 3 but you can buy another 3 and connect if you want more.

I've heard good/bad things about both.

Yeah, I also have the Saitek Rudders, they're awesome!!

I have saitek pedal but they have a loud slot slot sound to them but are good adjustable foot set ,,CH are smoother and quieter than the saitek ones but look like they have just come out of a boeing 747 and to me look ugly ,

smooth and quiet nice CH ,click click and good looking saitek,,price combo saitek or CH they are both reasonable sets ...

I have the CH set. Yoke pedals and throttle quadrant.
Would not be without them.

The ch yoke does have throttle, pitch and mixture levers on it. you don't need to purchase the throttle separately.
I have had no problem to date with any of them.
Good workmanship and 2 yr warranty.

Saitek I would say would be just as good and have good testimonies also.

Personally i would go CH.

Give an idea the quality of the CH yoke and pedals , Ive had my set since March 2002 , it is a little tied and due for replacement , thats good money spent .

Thanks for the tips guys. Maybe I might just get the CH pedals and the yoke later unless I can get the full set second hand - Heres one on Trademe but its not USB compatible and says it loses some function (not sure what though) through the USB adapter so not too sure about these.

Wouldn't touch it. i tried a USB adapter with my force feedback pro. Didn't work. Would be wary.

I've been looking at the Saitek ones lately.
They were on special at Bayfair for $200 or something which I thought was pretty good.
I had a quick play with them, and I could see myself dropping the money on them.
Probably not much help seeing as I don't own them, but as a potential purchaser as well as you I'd have no problem buying them. (The only reason I didn't is because I only had $50 cash and no EFTPOS card with me )

I tried out the Saitek controls and was disappointed, as they felt so cheap, and the plastic used was so cheap. They did not give the impression that they would last very long either. Also, I would have liked more movement in pitch.

Probably if I had the Saitek controls, then I would add some better handgrips and also grease/lubricate the column.

Naki, Are you on XP or Vista??

Saitek drivers for Vista are *dreadful*. It's taken them nearly TWO YEARS to write/update the controller software to work for Vista (considering hardware manufacturers can get advanced MS Betas). Troll the Saitek support forums - it's quite depressing.

I have CH Pro rudders along with my Saitek X52. I agree with a previous poster - don't bother risking gameport/USB adapters. Just not worth the risk.

After having used Thrust[crappy pots]master then Saitek, my feeling is stick with CH!!!

If you have any BOSS-approved cash left in your slush fund, I'd seriously look at Track-IR.

I bought my CH Pro pedals off "peterthewulf" on Trademe that appears to sell them retail - but discounted a bit. Nice bloke (going by friendly emails).
