Getting a new one as a b'day present for brother.

Any recommendations?

Note:

Absolute max is $120
Preferably new (2nd hand is probably not a god thing for certain reasons)
Must be AGP (previous card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440)

Main reasons for buying is to obtain better graphcs as well as speeding up game play which is halted when using higher graphics settings. Also in future line are new processor then hard drive.
Is there anything I should know when upgrading graphics card?

Any help,
Kelburn

Sorry, just to add to this, The graphics card needs to support pixel shaders in order to play certain games (don't ask).

Just having a quick peruse:

There is nothing worth spending your money on. AGP is old technology.

Perhaps just put some money towards him getting a new PC?

Motherboards with AGP slots are at least one, and maybe two generations behind current technology.
This means slower RAM, limited or non-existent processor chip upgrades, and probably IDE drives.
I would suggest that you look at the capabilities of the current motherboard before you invest in
upgrading older technology.

If there are limits to the upgradability then you would be better to wait until you can afford to get
a complete new PC.

pretty much anything you can afford would give you a speed increase over the 440. Just buy the most expensive cardyou can(your choice will be narrowed because of agp but there's still stuff out there. try trademe)

Sorry but the max is $120. It has to be AGP. No chance of complete upgrading. What was your opinion on the graphics cards that I listed from Paradigm PCs?

out of those, i would go 2400hd, then 6200. The 2400 is the newest tech, and the fastest, and dx10 compatible, and will play all games (as in, its compatible with the games. Performance will be a little slow). 6200 is also pretty good, but its old technology. The radeon 9800 is the worst out of the bunch. Its about the same speed as the 6200, but is even older technology than the 6200, and may not play some of the new games due to compatibility issues.

Long story short, ATI 2400.
